, Description:Technical field of the Invention
The present invention generally relates to the systems and methods used to manage the data of libraries. More particularly, the present invention is related to the use of block chain system and method in managing the data of library which can include the information related to the books, the management and students who enter the library etc.

Background of the Invention
A library is basically a collection of sources of information and similar resources, which are made accessible to a group of people for their reference for the purpose of learning. The library provides physical or digital access to the information which can be used by the recipient for learning. The sources of information which can be present in the libraries can include books, periodicals, newspapers, manuscripts, maps, e-books, audiobooks, and many more. A library can contain several million books which are usually arranged in the shelves for easy access for the librarian as well as the students.
A library is organized for use and maintained by a public body, an institution, a corporation, or a private individual. In addition to providing materials with information, the libraries provides a librarian who is an experts at finding and organizing information and at interpreting information needs of the users.
Modern libraries are increasingly being redefined as places to get unrestricted access to information in many formats and from many sources, which is mainly done using the internet services. They are extending services beyond the physical walls of a building, by providing material accessible by electronic means, and by providing the assistance of librarians in navigating and analyzing very large amounts of information with a variety of digital resources.
A library is an integral part of the educational institutions which can include the schools and colleges. Such libraries provides access to the students, staff, and often, parents of the students as well. A library in an educational institution usually contains the information sources in the form of books and e-learning material which are learner-oriented primarily based on the curriculum. In the educational institutions, the libraries are staffed by librarians or library media specialists or media coordinators who hold a specific library science degree.
As the libraries contains numerous number of books which can be accessed by a large group of people in the educational institutions, the data created will be huge and its maintenance is a tedious task. Several systems have been developed in order to ease the data management in the libraries.
The traditional method which are uses earlier included the record maintenance in the books where the student who retrieves a book from the library would enter their name and the class they are studying in, and they were lent the books from the library. The librarian would also maintain the records of when the books were lent, when the books were returned, number of books, and so on, which is tedious, time consuming as well as never-ending task. Such method is not feasible in the current scenario as use of computer system in data maintenance provides several benefits and overcomes all the drawbacks of the manual record maintenance system.
A patent application UST922003I4 by Robert W. Alexander, Jr et.al, discloses a library management system showing a file structure for an on-line system. A central processing system having core and direct access storage devices and input-output terminals is programmed for online applications such as inventory control, manufacturing process control, library management. The file structure for those applications includes an item detail file including a logical record for each individual item in the inventory an access point file including inverted lists of item details having search or control significance, a code translation file having alphameric translations of coded data in the other files. Also included may be a print queue-verification file and date control file. Each file includes one or more index and data files. Forward and reverse indexing connects the files through use of implicit pointers and item numbers. On-line updating of record detain is simultaneously performable with review of that record. Events having future significance are triggered automatically. Logical and physical overflow records are accommodated, as are variable length logical records built on variable length counters. Last-in/last-out updating of logical record lists together with reverse order data fields and length/sequence fields optimizes "get" time. The application functions include ordering, receiving, cataloging, circulating, searching, and file maintaining.
Though the prior art patent provides a library data management system and method, there is a need for a system and method which is used in data management in the libraries, with more ease and a faster pace, and with tracking facility. There is a need for a system which can manage the data of libraries with high security and traceability.

Detailed Description of the Invention
The present invention is described as follows.
The present invention provides a block chain system and method to maintain the data related to the library. With the help of the present invention, the data related to the library can be recorded and maintained and stored which can include the data related to the books i.e. number of books, title of the books, and classification of the books which can include the classification based on authors, based on subjects and so on, and the timing related information which can include the timing of entry and exit of the students, visitors and the librarian. The present invention aims at providing an improved system which can save the data securely which can be tracked.
FIG 1 is the flowchart describing the data management of the books in the library. Referring to FIG 1, the information related to the books present in the library are gathered together which are entered in the template created using the blockchain system. The created template is updated with the information related to the book i.e. title, edition, field of information, date of issuing of the book to a student, date of return and many more. When any student wishes to borrow a book from the library, the librarian can use the blockchain system to retrieve the information related to the book such as the availability of the book, when is the book due to return from the previous student etc. Any query made through the blockchain system related to a book, is recorded in the form of a transaction which can be tracked by the members of the network i.e. the members of the educational institution.
The blockchain system creates a template for recording the data related to the books and other sources of information present in the library which can include the computer systems that are provided in the libraries for the students to retrieve information. Initially, a template is created in which the information related to the books in the library has to be entered which can include the title, edition, author, field etc. The details are filled in the created template by the librarian, which can be viewed by the members of the educational institution. Once all the details of the books are entered in the template, the template is saved in the system. The links are provided in the template, which can be accessed by the members of the educational institution for accessing the information related to the books to know who has used it and also the availability of the book.
According to the present invention, the block chain technology is used in the data management of the library, which are recorded in the form of a list of transactions. The history of all the transactions which are made through the block chain system can be managed, which has the all the data related to the books, the recipients and the entry-exit timings. The data which is created, saved and managed through the system is more transparent, secure and inalterable. The information which is recorded in the system is distributed and saved in the blocks of the block chain, and is saved in the server. The saved data is distributed into various blocks which are secure and which once entered cannot be altered.
According to the present invention, the students who wish to borrow any book for the purpose of learning, or use the computers in the library, have to provide their details prior to using the source of information. All these data are entered in the blockchain system, which can be tracked in future, to know the details of the students who had accessed the library on a certain day with the exact timings. As the internet can provide an unlimited access to huge amount of information, monitoring of the information the students are accessing is very important as some content are not useful for the students and might lead them in wrong direction. With the help of the blockchain system, the librarian can monitor the search history of the student when they are accessing the internet through the computer system. The search history and the websites opened by the student along with the student’s name, class and timing of access are recorded in the blockchain system, which can be tracked by their teachers and other staff.
The present invention discloses the block chain design, which is resistant to modification of the saved data. The open and distributed records each and every transaction that has happened between two parties with high efficiency. The entered data is easily verifiable and saved permanently. Once the data is recorded in the system in the form of blocks, it cannot be altered retroactively, and cannot be changed or altered, without alteration of all subsequent blocks, which requires permission of the handlers of majority of the blocks. This makes the blocks highly suitable for recording of the data of record management which should be highly resistant for any alteration.
There are several advantages of the present invention.
The main advantage of the present invention is that as block chain system is used in data management, the data is secure, transparent and verifiable.
Another advantage of the present invention is that the system makes the data inalterable without the consent of all the people who are taking care of the nodes.
Yet another advantage of the present invention is that all the information related to the books are available at one place, which can be retrieved by any member of the network at any time.
