DESC:FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a composition containing omega-3 enriched Egg powder and other functional constituents derived from plants. More specifically, said omega-3 enriched egg powder is derived from Nutrient-Enhanced (NE) egg obtained from birds that are fed with fish oil and its derivatives along with their regular feed. Said composition is suitably used for foods, supplements, feedstuffs and pharmaceutical and the likes. The invention further discloses a method of manufacturing said composition.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
There is demand for Omega-3 rich supplements and food products, especially EPA and DHA rich supplement for kids, adults, and animals. About 250-500mg per day of EPA and DHA is recommended for adult human, but then again if it is for patients with a cardiovascular condition the dosage might go up. The benefit of omega-3 and other vital nutrients are not limited to just humans, there are many conditions in animals that can be prevented, and/or cured by supplementing omega-3 in an effective dose to animals. There is a challenge when it comes to supplementing nutrients to animals, one of them being that such supplements need to be palatable to the animal.
There is a requirement for an omega-3 rich supplement for animal use, especially for pet animals such as large breeds of dogs. For example, dogs like Labrador retriever, rottweiler, German shepherd and the like are more susceptible to osteoarthritis as demonstrated by its greater occurrence in these breeds. Additionally, dogs above the age of about 6 years have a significantly greater occurrence of osteoarthritis. Active dogs, athletic dogs and obese dogs can also be at risk. For the prevention of joint damage from osteoarthritis, regular supplementation rich in Omega-3 can help.
Although sufficient amount of Omega-3 can be consumed through diet, the most effective and easiest way is through dietary supplements. Administration of Omega-3 is a challenge, one issue is that consumers tend to move away from pills and prefer their supplements in form of food or beverages. With fish oil-based Omega-3 the challenge is greater, it is mostly available in the form of a soft gel capsule, it is hard to consume, and it has got bad taste and smell. One preferred alternative form is through eggs, nutrition enriched (NE) eggs and egg products can play a key role in this field.
Egg, whole or just yolk is utilized in the food industry for their functional and nutritional properties. For operational benefits, the eggs are used in dried form, the drying process leads to the removal of water and enhances the microbiological safety of the powders. The egg composition, particularly that of the yolk, depends on the age, breed, and diet of the bird. An egg is packed with vital nutrients like vitamins, proteins, minerals, lipoprotein, and essential fatty acids. Eggs are also rich in nutrients that most people know of yet do not consume enough of, such as Choline - which helps in building cell membrane; Lutein and Zeaxanthin - major benefits for eye health. Dried eggs retain most of the nutritional benefits of a fresh egg and they can be made part of dietary supplements for humans and animals.
Egg yolk nutritional composition can be altered by modifying a hen's diet. E.g., hens are fed flaxseed along with their feed to increase the Omega-3 content of the yolk as shown in US patent No. 5,897,890. In US patent No. 5133963 vacuum deodorized fish oil was added to poultry feed for producing commercially valuable quantities of poultry products. Again, in US patent No.5012761 chickens are fed composition including fish oil to produced modified egg rich in Omega-3. Fish waste is also blended with broiler feed to increase the Omega-3, especially EPA and DHA, content in the chicken meat as shown in US Patent App publication 20150237886. Although, Egg can act as a good carrier of Omega-3, but at the same time excess of a specific feed can affect the sensory properties of the eggs. Fish oil as poultry feed tends to leave a fishy odour and taste to the poultry product. Polyunsaturated fatty acids found in fish accumulate in the yolk, which spoils quickly once exposed to air, light, and heat. Spoilage produces volatile compounds a stronger fishy taste and smell.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of the invention is to provide an Omega-3 enriched composition comprising omega-3 enriched Egg powder which is stable for a long period of time and hence devoid of foul smell and is palatable to humans and animals and other functional nutrients derived plants.
One more objective of the invention is to derive the omega-3 enriched egg powder from Nutrient-Enhanced (NE) egg obtained from birds that are fed with fish oil and its derivatives along with their regular feed.
Another object of the invention is to provide a supplement formulation for improving cognitive skills, immunity, bone development, joint flexibility, eyesight, bone growth, regulate triglyceride levels, cardiovascular health, hormonal balance and fertility among humans and animals. The formulation can also prevent and treat infective diseases, inflammation among humans and animals.

Example 1
Method of preparation of Water-soluble composition of omega 3 egg powder and DAH formulation.
66 Nutrient-Enhanced (NE) eggs were taken and whole contents of the eggs (yolk + white) were collected (3.4Kg) in a vessel and stirred well to a uniform mass, in a high shear mixer vessel. The total dissolved solids (TDS) were analyzed and TDS was found to be 23.5 and total solids were found to be 799g. 150g Hicap was added to the above solution and mixed well in a stirred vessel. To this solution, 43g pectin was added with constant stirring, until uniform. To this 53g, DAH was added with constant stirring. 32g aerosil was added to the above solution and the resultant blended solution was passed through a high-pressure Homogeniser machine at 300 Bars pressure. The homogenised solution was Pasteurised, and Spray dried at 150oC inlet temperature to form water soluble omega 3 enriched egg powder and DAH formulation with 75:5 (simplified ratio 15:1) ratio of omega 3 egg powder and DAH.
