Abstract: Polluting agents present in the air and environments, particularly metal or metalloids are detrimental to skin health. Exposure to such polluting agents causes a host of deleterious effects such as premature aging, DNA damage, protein oxidation, production of reactive oxygen species, etc. The present disclosure provides a composition comprising xanthohumol and chrysin, which at particular w/w ratios, ameliorates the reactive oxygen species production in dermal cells due to exposure to polluting agents.
1. A composition to ameliorate the effects of polluting agents, said composition comprising: a. xanthohumol; and b. chrysin, wherein xanthohumol to chrysin w/w ratio in said composition is in the range of 1:1-1:15.
2. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein xanthohumol to chrysin w/w ratio in said composition is in the range of 1:1-1:10.
3. The composition as claimed in claim 1, wherein xanthohumol to chrysin w/w ratio in said composition is in the range of 1:4-1:15.
4. The composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-3, further comprising suitable additives.
5. The composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-4, wherein said composition is effective in ameliorating the deleterious effects of polluting agents on skin, said polluting agent is selected from the group consisting of metals, and metalloids.
6. The composition as claimed in claim 5, wherein said polluting agent is selected from the group consisting of lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, chromium, and combinations thereof.
7. A method of ameliorating the effect of pollution by metals or metalloid on skin, said method comprising: a. obtaining the composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-6; and b. contacting the said composition with skin, wherein said method ameliorates deleterious effects of pollution by metals or metalloids on skin.
8. A process for preparing a composition as claimed in any of the claims 1-3, said process comprising: a. obtaining xanthohumol; b. obtaining chrysin; and c. contacting xanthohumol and chrysin to obtain a composition
9. A process for preparing a composition as claimed in claim 4, said process comprising: a. obtaining xanthohumol; b. obtaining chrysin; c. obtaining suitable additives; and d. contacting xanthohumol, chrysin, and suitable additives to obtain a composition.
