Dedicated Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor For Washing Machine
Abstract: The new invention is a dedicated permanent magnet synchronous motor (DPMSM) for washing machine and it is designed to handle critical requirements of this application. Key requirements are high torque of 2.2 Nm during washing at low speed of 200 rpm, medium torque up to 4000 rpm, and high speed of 17000 rpm at low torque. Therefore, this invention utilizes a unique mechanism to achieve different torque coefficient (Kt) and Back EMF coefficient (Ke) at low and high speed which makes this motor as most suitable for washing machine application. When the motor runs at higher speeds above 5000 rpm, the centrifugal forces on the spring (7) change its shape from (11) to (13). This applies axial force on rotor (2) and the rotor (2) is displaced axially with respect to stator, which changes effective stack length and reduces Ke and Kt at high speed.
