Electrical Event Alerting System

Abstract: Automation and Electrical Energy Conservation are the major factors to be adopted to enhance any country"s GDP rate in any sector. To pave the path for bio-survival in future it is mandatory to fallow energy and environmental regulations. Studies confirm that complying with energy and environmental regulations raises business costs in the short term but reduces them in huge ratios in long term. To match with the same Intemo System Limited developed a product called Electrical event alert system, which monitors all types of electrical loads and on sensing events does alert the persons at remote places in the form of either voice message or SMS which reduces maintenance time and helps in maintaining the production effectively with optimal usage of energy and also enhances the human safety. Intemo"s EEAS comprises of power supply, l/P monitoring section. Voice record and play back module, EEPROM, Main control card. Serial communication interface, PSTN line interface, LCD and Key pad Section. EEAS monitors the occurrence of Electrical Events with the help of l/p monitoring section and alerts the persons (Numbers pre-recorded in EEPROM) by sending voice message(pre-recorded in voice record/ Play back module) using PSTN network and SMS using GSM network through RS- 232 Interface. Display module is used to display the status of entire system and Key pad is used to enter telephone numbers of the persons to be alerted. Main control unit is the heart of entire system. It receives numeric characters from key pad and stores in memory unit. It senses the happening of all electrical events through signals received at l/P ports from the transducers and transmits response through the O/P ports in the form of voice and text message by using communication link. It collects l/P signals, maintains data storage and controls entire system.

3) IDEA FOR DEVELOPING THE PRODUCT EEAS:

Usually it is observed that in multi stage multi channel process industries, process is linked with stage wise and channel wise operations. Machinery in all the stages being controlled by PLCs and Drives will be switched 'ON' according to the pre-stored timings considering (Assuming ) proper functionality of all the stages. If machinery at a particular stage fails, there is no meaning in switching the subsequent stage machinery to 'ON' condition till the prior stages are rectified to function properly. If we get the alert soon after the prior stage fails, we can stop the subsequent stage machinery to run unnecessarily, and the man power engaged can be immediately diverted to other stages and other channels to enhance the productivity with reduced electrical energy consumption.

With out Back- up. Generator and Inverter we can't imagine an Industry, any Data center and even a small multi stored building. If the battery voltage levels are not being monitored, we won't be knowing till it reaches deep discharge, which hampers smooth running of Industry, causes lot of data corruption and inconvenience to the public. This results in wastage of lot of man and Machine hours. If automatic event monitoring and alerting system is developed to caution us , we can avoid disasters and for generator functioning 'ON' and 'OFF' events will be identified and alerts will be sent to the concerned and the data stored could be analyzed for performance and functioning hours. Thus the fuel consumption and its efficiency can be accounted. The same could be adopted to all types of Electrical loads (conventional and nonconventional) to enhance the efficiency.

Studies says that the gap between energy supply and utilization is increasing day by day with increasing population. On top of that if the energy is wasted the gap will be widen further. Hence it is strongly felt that automatic Electrical Event Alerting System is a good and economical solution for bridging the gap. This is the route cause for origination of Intemo's brain child "Electrical Event Alerting System".

5) BLOCK DIAGRAM OF ELECTRICAL EVENT ALERTING SYSTEM

INVENTED BY KAKARLA SATYANARAYANA MANAGING DIRECTOR OF
INTEMO SYSTEMS LIMITED

6) TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION :

The block diagram of Electrical Event Alerting System comprises of the following Parts:

1. Power Supply

2. Main control unit

3. Serial communication Interface (Rs-232)

4. EEPROM

5. Voice record & Play back Module

6. PSTN Line Interface

7. Input Section

8. LCD Display

9. Keypad and

10. GSM Modem

1. Power supply:

Power supply is an electronic circuit which converts regular AC 230V in to required D.C levels. In the first stage Line voltage (230v AC) will be reduced to required A.C levels using step down transformer with tapings . These reduced AC levels will be rectified to get required levels of D.C. These D.C voltages consists of ripple components which can't be used directly to drive digital circuit. Hence filtering stage will be usually incorporated in any power supply. Here the power supply supplies 5v and 12v D.C as per the requirement of the remaining circuit.

2. MAIN CONTROL UNIT:

This is the heart of entire system. This is a highly integrated chip which performs controlling functions. It receives numbers and numeric characters from keypad and stores in memory unit. It senses the happening of external events through signals received at input ports from the transducers and transmits responses through the output ports in the form of voice and text messages by using communication link. It collects all input signals, maintains data storage and controls the entire system.

3. SERIAL COMMUNICATION INTERFACE(RS-232):

RS-232 is a universal asynchronous Serial Communication Interface. It uses a standard non-return-to-zero (NRZ) format which is not inherently self- synchronizing. The baud rate is programmable to synchronize capturing and sending data.

4. EEPROM:

Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM) is a non-volatile memory used in computers and other electronic devices to store small amounts of data that must be retained even when power is removed, e.g, calibration tables or device configuration. Here EEPROM is used to store the telephone numbers and SMS Messages.

5. VOICE RECORD & PLAY BACK MODULE:

40 seconds of high quality speech record/playback under MCU Control is provided by way of the single-chip record/playback system. It uses analog non-volatile memory to record speech directly, bypassing the traditional method of A/D and D/A conversion. The record memory is configurable into multiple segments, and each segment is MCU-addressable. Switchable microphone and line-level inputs are provided, and the output is given to a headphone or to a Loud speaker. The board can also be used for standalone applications without the need for a MCU. Record and Play buttons are provided for this purpose.

6. PSTN LINE INTERFACE:

PSTN Line Interface is to detect the Hook and Ring detection for Telephone signal Feedback. PSTN is the global collection of interconnects originally designed to support circuit-switched voice communication. The PSTN provides the traditional Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) to residences and many other establishments. Parts of the PSTN are also utilized for DSL, VOIP and other Internet-based network technologies.

7. INPUT SECTION:

Input Section monitors up to 8 analog input channels in 8 l/P Model and calls 40 preprogrammed phone numbers over a standard telephone line to provide alarm information in the form of a digitally recorded voice message or over GSM link in the form of SMS. And in 24 l/P Model this section monitors 24 analog l/p channels and calls 120 preprogrammed phone numbers.

8. LCD DISPLAY SECTION:

This is used to display status of entire system being monitored.

9. KEYPAD SECTION: Keypad is used to enter telephone numbers and for manual operation.

10. GSM MODEM: A GSM modem is a specialized modem which accepts a SIM card, and operates over a subscription through a mobile operator, just like a mobile phone. From the mobile operator perspective, a GSM modem looks just like a mobile phone.

When a GSM modem is connected to a computer or Data Sending Equipment , this allows the computer/ DSE to communicate over the mobile network. While these GSM modems are most frequently used to provide mobile internet connectivity, many of them can also be used for sending and receiving SMS and MMS messages.

7) FEATURES OF EEAS ;

Field Systems:

• It can detect 8 types of electrical events for 8 i/p and 24 types of electrical events for 24 i/p models respectively.

• It can store up to 40 telephone or mobile phone numbers(11 digits in length) for 8 i/p, 120 telephone or mobile phone numbers for 24 i/p models respectively.
