Abstract: A printing unit (100) with ink splash prevention is described. The printing unit (100) comprises an ink applicator (104) having openings (108) supplying ink for printing. The printing unit (100) also comprises a first (110) and a second stopper (114) which are placed on the ink applicator (104). A face (208, 214) of each of the first stopper (110) and the second stopper (114) faces an opening (210, 212, 216, 218) of the openings (108). The first stopper (110) and the second stopper (114) are supported on the ink applicator (104) by a first (112) and a second frame (116) respectively which also enable the face (208, 214) to face the opening (210, 212). The first (110) and the second stopper (114) are arranged such that they enable ink from the opening (210, 212, 216, 218) to flow through a separation (220) between them
Claims:1. A printing unit (100) comprising:
an ink applicator (104) comprising a first surface (202), the first surface (202) having openings (108) along its length to supply ink for printing, and a second surface (204) substantially perpendicular to the first surface (202);
an ink tray (106) to collect the ink supplied through the openings (108);
a first stopper (110) and a second stopper (114), each placed on the second surface (204) of the ink applicator (104), the first stopper (110) and the second stopper (114) having a separation (220) between each other, wherein a face (208) of the first stopper faces a first opening (210, 212) of the openings (108) and a face (214) of the second stopper (114) faces a second opening (216, 218) of the openings (108);
a first frame (112) connected to the first stopper (110) and coupled to the ink applicator (104) for supporting the first stopper (110) on the second surface (204) of the ink applicator (104) and to enable the face (208) of the first stopper (110) to face the first opening (210, 212); and
a second frame (116) connected to the second stopper (110) and coupled to the ink applicator (104) for supporting the second stopper (110) on the second surface (204) of the ink applicator (104) and to enable the face (214) of the second stopper (110) to face the second opening (216, 218);
wherein the first stopper (110) and the second stopper (114) are arranged such that at least a portion of ink supplied by the first opening (210, 212) is blocked by the first stopper (110) and at least a portion of the ink supplied by the second opening (216, 218) is blocked by the second stopper (114) and wherein ink blocked by the first stopper (110) and the second stopper (114) flows to the ink tray (106) through the separation (220).
2. The printing unit (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the first stopper (110), the first frame (112), the second stopper (114), and the second frame (116) are movable along the second surface (204) of the ink applicator (104) such that the first stopper (110) and the second stopper (114) face any one or more of the openings (210, 212, 216, 218) of the openings (108).
3. The printing unit (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of the first frame (112) and the second frame (116) comprises a first end (222, 226) and a second end (224, 228), wherein the first frame (112) is connected to the first stopper (110) through its first end (222) and coupled to the ink applicator (104) through its second end (224), and wherein the second frame (116) is connected to the second stopper (114) through its first end (226) and coupled to the ink applicator (104) through its second end (228).
4. The printing unit (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least one of the first stopper (110) and the second stopper (114) is made of an ink resistant material.
5. The printing unit (100) as claimed in claim 4, wherein the ink resistant material is selected from a group comprising polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), rubber, polyurethane, and polyvinylchloride.
6. The printing unit (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least one of the first frame (112) and the second frame (116) is made of an ink resistant material.
7. The printing unit (100) as claimed in claim 6, wherein the ink resistant material is a metal.
8. The printing unit (100) as claimed in claim 3, wherein the first end (222, 226) of at least one of the first frame (112) and the second frame (116) comprises grooves.
9. The printing unit (100) as claimed in claim 3, wherein the second end (224, 228) of at least one of the first frame (112) and the second frame (116) comprises a hook (402).
10. The printing unit (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein at least one of the first stopper (110) and the second stopper (114) has dimensions of 25 cm X 2 cm X 1 cm.
11. The printing unit (100) as claimed in claim 1, comprising a print cylinder (102) partially immersed in the ink tray (106).
12. The printing unit (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein other openings (108) of the ink applicator (104) except the first opening (210, 212) and the second opening (216, 218) are covered.
13. The printing unit (100) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the ink blocked by the first stopper (110) and the second stopper (114) flows to the ink tray (106) around another edge of the first stopper (110) and around another edge of the second stopper (114), wherein the another edge of the first stopper (110) and the another edge of the second stopper (114) face away from the separation (220).
