Abstract: The invention proposes a fan-pulley assembly which is easier to manufacture. A fan-pulley assembly 10 comprises a pulley part 12 and a fan part 14. The pulley part comprises a first half of the pulley; the fan part comprises a fan 18 and a second half 16 of the pulley. The fan part 14 and the pulley part 12 coupled together with a joining mechanism 22. The fan part 14 and the pulley part 12 are made of sheet metal. In the first step a sheet metal of required thickness is taken and blanked into a round shape. Then using the piercing and forming technique the pulley part is manufactured. Similarly the fan part is manufactured using the same technique with additional bending for blades. When both these parts come together the V groove for the pulley is formed.
FIELD OF INVENTION:
The present invention generally relates to a starter motor in which a cooling fan and a pulley are integrated together.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION:
Integrating a fan and a pulley as a single unit is known in the prior arts. The US patent 7363885 discloses an internal combustion engine fitted with a fan-pulley assembly. In the disclosed prior art a cooling fan and a starter pulley are formed integrally with each other.
In the prior art cooling fan and the starter pulley are formed together as a single structure by integrally molding the cooling fan and the starter pulley by resin molding to define a unitary fan-pulley assembly.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION:
The object of the invention is to disclose a fan-pulley assembly which is easy to manufacture.
In the present invention, pulley part and fan part are made of sheet metal. Half of the pulley is manufactured as one part and the other half of the pulley is formed as an integral part of the fan. The fan-pulley assembly is manufactured in two separate parts and then coupled to a generator using a joining mechanism.
ADVANTAGES OF THE INVENTION:
By manufacturing the fan-pulley assembly as two separate units, a considerable amount of wastage of material is eliminated. The time for manufacturing the fan-pulley assembly is reduced considerably. Also as the parts are simple in nature, the quality of the product is improved.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS:
Figure 1 Shows the schematic of the invention
Figure 2A and 2B Show the manufacturing process
Figure 3 Shows the coupling of the invention with a generator
DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
Shown in fig. 1 is a schematic of the fan-pulley assembly 10. The fan-pulley assembly 10 comprises a fan part 12 and a pulley part 14. The fan part 12 further comprises a fan 16 and a partial pulley 18. The pulley part 14 and the fan part 12 are made from sheet metal. The two parts are manufactured separately.
Fig. 2A and 2B show the steps of manufacturing the fan-pulley assembly. In the first step a sheet metal of required thickness is taken and blanked into a round shape. Then using the piercing and forming technique the pulley part is manufactured. Similarly the fan part is manufactured using the same technique with additional bending for blades. When both these parts come together the V groove for the pulley is formed.
Fig. 3 shows the fan-pulley assembly 10 coupled to a generator 20. The use of the invention with a generator is only provided as an example. The fan-pulley assembly is coupled to the generator using a joining mechanism 22. The joining mechanism 22 may be a simple nut and bolt, a screw or any other mechanism. Once the fan-pulley assembly is coupled to the Generator, V groove pulley becomes operational. The pulley when rotated provides a driving means to drive the rotor for generating electrical output and the fan provides the cooling for the generator electrical winding.
The invention makes use of simple manufacturing process to provide a fan-pulley assembly. The assembly is made from sheet metal using only piercing and forming technique. As the two parts are manufactured separately, the wastage of material is reduced considerably. The earlier processes before the invention were using the steps of parting, tuning, boring, groove finishing etc. to manufacture the pulley.
As the manufacturing process is simple, the skills required to manufacture the invention are also simple. This increases the quality of the product.
