Intelligent Attendance Tracking System: A Comprehensive Approach For Automated Attendance Marking

Abstract: Face is the crucial part of the human body that uniquely identifies a person. Using the face characteristics as biometric, the face recognition system can be implemented. The most demanding task in any organisation is attendance marking. In traditional attendance system, the students are called out by the teachers and their presence or absence is marked accordingly. This invention presents, the Open CV based face recognition approach has been proposed. This model integrates a camera that captures an input image, an algorithm for detecting face from an input image, encoding and identifying the face, marking the attendance in a spreadsheet and converting it into PDF file. The training database is created by training the system with the faces of the authorised students. The cropped images are then stored as a database with respective labels. The features are extracted using LBPH algorithm.

Background
[0003] The "Intelligent Attendance Tracking System" was created in response to the ongoing problems with traditional attendance tracking techniques. Conventional manual processes are frequently vulnerable to fraud, mistakes, and inefficiencies in terms of time. Acknowledging the necessity for a more advanced and dependable solution, the creators explored the domains of cutting-edge technologies including biometrics, data analytics, and facial recognition. This concept is the result of a group effort to update and modernise attendance monitoring in a variety of industries. The idea was to replace tedious, prone to error processes with smooth, automated solutions in the future.
[0004] With the speed at which technology is developing, this creative attendance marker was created in response to the increasing need across a range of industries for automated, secure, and effective solutions. The creators of the system leverage their backgrounds in biometric authentication, computer science, and artificial intelligence to develop a solution that not only streamlines attendance monitoring but also establishes new benchmarks for accuracy, dependability, and data protection. The history of this invention shows a dedication to pushing over current boundaries, seizing technical opportunities, and advancing attendance management in the digital era.

[0005] Attendance maintenance is a significant function in all the institutions to monitor the performance of the students. Every institute does this in its own way. Some of these institutes use the old paper or file-based systems and some have adopted strategies of automatic attendance using some biometric techniques. A facial recognition system is computerized biometric software which is suited for determining or validating a person by performing comparison on patterns based on their facial appearances. Face recognition is a powerful field of research which is a computer based digital technology.Face recognition for the intent of marking attendance is a resourceful application of attendance system. It is widely used in security systems, and it can be compared with other biometrics such as fingerprint or eye iris recognition systems.
[0006] KR101710200B1 The system and technique for automatically managing attendance using facial recognition are the subject of the current invention. Every lecture hall has a terminal that can identify an RFID tag on a pass or student ID card or can be programmed with a name or class. When a particular button on the terminal is pressed, a face is captured on camera. The terminal connects to a U-Campus information server, transmits a terminal device ID, name/class/tag information, a face photo, and visual information, and stores the information in the U-Campus information server's database. The student photo data that was before kept in the server's database has been resized to a standard size. The analysis of the faces of the students present involves comparing characteristic values of the forehead, eye, nose, and mouth face feature points of images of the students whose sizes and angles have been adjusted with the student photo data previously saved in the server database. In order to automatically verify attendance or absence, information regarding a student's attendance is once again saved in the U-Campus information server. Consequently, facial recognition technology can be used in place of card keys to verify attendance, absence, diligence, and laziness in an organisation, as well as to prevent proxy attendance and track the number of individuals attending unlawfully.
, Claims:[1] The invention is designed to provide accurate attendance records. Automation minimizes the potential for human error, such as misinterpretation of handwriting or data entry mistakes, resulting in more reliable attendance data.
[2] to capture and analyze facial features for unique identification, a biometric authentication unit for verifying the identity of individuals, and a data processing component facilitating real-time attendance data recording and synchronization.
[3] An innovative approach to an encrypted database for secure storage of attendance records, wherein the system employs advanced algorithms to detect and prevent fraudulent activities, ensuring the integrity of attendance data in diverse applications such as educational institutions, corporate environments, and public facilities..
[4] The core concept revolves around leveraging technology to automate the traditionally manual and time-consuming task of taking attendance.
