Live Group Video Streaming

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to systems, non-transitory computer-readable media, and methods for accurately, flexibly, and efficiently broadcasting public combined live video streams from multiple participant devices, which change over the course of the live broadcast, as well as generating dynamic user interfaces that streamline adding, removing, and swapping participant devices from the public combined live video stream. In particular, a live video streaming system facilitates compositing live video streams from multiple participant devices into a public combined live video stream within a digital room before broadcasting the public combined live video stream to viewer devices. In addition, the live video stream smoothly and efficiently transitions new participant devices from a digital waiting room to the public combined live video stream as well as switches current participant devices from the public combined live video stream to a digital waiting room, all while maintaining live video stream of the participant devices.

3 [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to live group video streaming and fmds particular,
4 although not exclusive, utility in broadcasting a public combined live video stream from multiple devices.
5 BACKGROUND
6 [0002] Recent years have seen significant technological improvements in hardware and software
7 platforms for sharing user-generated digital media. For example, conventional video sharing systems can
8 facilitate a client device capturing and sharing video communications with other client devices across
9 computer networks. Often, these conventional systems facilitate live video sharing across client devices.
lO Despite many advances, conventional video sharing systems continue to suffer from a number of technical
11 drawbacks particularly in relation to efficiency, flexibility, and accuracy of implementing computer systems
12 in providing and facilitating public combined live video streams from multiple client devices.
13 SUMMARY
14 [0003] One or more implementations described herein provide benefits and/or solve one or more of the
15 foregoing or other problems in the art with methods, non-transitory or other computer-readable media, and
16 systems that accurately, flexibly, and efficiently broadcast a public combined live video stream from multiple
17 devices, which change throughout the live broadcast, as well as generate dynamic user interfaces that
18 streamline adding, removing, and swapping participant devices with respect to the public combined live video
19 stream.
20 [0004] According to a first aspect of the present disclosure, there is provided a computer-implemented
21 method comprising: receiving, at a server device, a plurality of live video streams from a plurality of
22 participant devices; generating, at the server device, a digital preparation room for the plurality of participant
23 devices by: combining the plurality of live video streams from the plurality of participant devices into a
24 combined live video stream; and providing the combined live video stream to the plurality of participant
25 devices within a digital preparation room interface; receiving, from a first participant device of the plurality
26 of participant devices, user interaction with a broadcast element of the digital preparation room interface; and
27 based on the user interaction with the broadcast element, broadcasting the combined live video stream to a
28 plurality of viewer devices.
29 [0005] The method may further comprise: receiving, at the server device, an additional live video stream
30 from a pending participant device; and generating, at the server device, a digital waiting room by: generating
31 a digital waiting room live video stream comprising the additional live video stream from the pending
3 2 participant device; and providing, for display at the pending participant device, a digital waiting room interface
33 that comprises the combined live video stream and the digital waiting room live video stream.
34 [0006] The method may further comprise: ending the combined live video stream broadcast to the
35 plurality of viewer devices; and generating, at the server device, an after broadcast room for one or more
36 participant devices of the plurality of participant devices by: combining one or more of the plurality of live

video streams from the one or more participant devices into an after broadcast room live video stream; and
2 providing the after broadcast room live video stream to the one or more participant devices.
3 [0007] The method may further comprise: identifYing a subset of viewer devices from the plurality of
4 viewer devices based on one or more activity metrics associated with the plurality of viewer devices; and
5 providing access to the after broadcast room live video stream to the subset of the viewer devices.
6 [0008] The method may further comprise: removing, from the combined live video stream, one or more
7 live video streams of one or more participant devices of the plurality of participant devices during the
8 combined live video stream; and generating, at the server device, a digital post -participation room for the one
9 or more participant devices removed from the combined live video stream by: combining the one or more
lO live video streams of the one or more participant devices into a post -participation room live video stream; and
ll providing, for display at the one or more participant devices, a post-participation room user interface that
12 comprises the combined live video stream and the post-participation room live video stream.
l3 [0009] The method may further comprise: before broadcasting the combined live video stream to the
14 plurality of viewer devices, providing, for display at the first participant device, a live broadcast user interface
15 that comprises broadcast participation elements indicating one or more participation triggers for participant
16 devices to participate in the combined live video stream; based on receiving a selection of a broadcast
17 participation element from the first participant device, identifYing a participation trigger; and broadcasting the
18 combined live video stream to the plurality of viewer devices in accordance with the participation trigger.
19 [0010] The participation trigger may comprise at least one of: a trigger for adding a participant device
20 to the combined live video stream, a trigger for removing a participant device from the combined live video
21 stream, a trigger for transitioning a participant device from a digital preparation room to the combined live
22 video stream, a trigger for transitioning a participant device from a digital waiting room to the combined live
23 video stream, or a trigger for transitioning a participant device from the combined live video stream to a post-
24 participation room.
