"Macroblock Mode Mapping For Transcoding Video Standards"

Abstract: The present invention discloses a system and method for macroblock mode mapping tor transcoding video standards from one format to another. A cascaded pixel domain transcoder (CPDT) for transcoding is disclosed. The CPDT includes a MPEG-2 decoder module, a shared frame buffer, a shared MB information buffer and a VC1 encoder module. The MPEG-2 decoder module includes a variable length decoding (VLD) circuit, an inverse quantization (IQ) circuit, an inverse discrete cosine transform (IDCT) circuit, an adder, a motion compensation (MC) circuit, and a picture buffer for decoding the incoming bit streams. The VC1 encoder module includes a transform circuit T (VC1), a quantization circuit Q (VC1), a variable length coding VLC (VC1), an inverse quantization circuit IQ (VC1), an inverse discrete cosine transform circuit IT (VC1), a motion compensation MC (VC1), an adder, a picture buffer, a MB mapping block and a MV refinement block for encoding the received data.
