Specification

TECHNICAL FIELD
[001] The subject matter in general relates to separator pipes. More
particularly, but not exclusively, the subject matter relates to marking a separator
nozzle hole on the separator pipe.
BACKGROUND
[002] Background description includes information that may be useful in
understanding the present subject matter. It is not an admission that any of the
information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed subject
matter, or that any publication specifically or implicitly referenced is prior art.
[003] During the manufacturing of separators after edge preparation for
welding and length machining, six nozzle holes are to be marked in the separator
pipe for boring in a boring machine.
[004] Conventionally, the nozzle holes are marked with trammel and spirit
level. After marking, two stage inspection is carried out to check the correctness of
the marking. However, it has been found that there are always errors in marking
and therefore remarking had to be carried out again using the trammel and spirit
level. The error in the marking is attributed to the improper holding of the trammel.
[005] Solution to the above problem was found by replicating the actual pipe
in cardboard and then transferring the corresponding marking points to the actual
pipe. It was observed that, for each pipe size there had to be drawn the pipe diameter
and corresponding marking points in the cardboard and clearance had to be obtained
from quality control. However, in following this method it was found that the
chances of misinterpretation of marking in the actual pipe went up, since the
markings in the cardboard were not clear. This only increased the inspection time.
Hence there needs to be a suitable marking tool that can overcome the above stated
deficiencies.

STRUCTURAL CONFIGRATION OF THE MARKING TOOL 100
[0029] Referring to FIGs. 1 and 2, discloses is a marking tool 100 for marking
a separator nozzle hole on a separator pipe 500 (shown in FIG. 5). The marking
tool comprises a frame 101, a locating pin 103, a channel 105, a plate 106, a marking
pin 107, a channel spirit level 108, a holding block 109, a bush 110, sliding arms
111, a cover 112 and a steel ruler 113.
[0030] Referring to FIG. 3, the frame 101 defines a through-hole 302 and is
symmetric about an axis XX. The through-holes 302 may be configured to lift and
hold the marking tool 100. The sectional view of the frame 101 along an axis AA
is shown in the FIG. 3. The frame 101 comprises a strip 304 along the length of the
frame 101.
[0031] Referring back to FIGs. 1 and 2, the holding block 109 is configured to
hold the frame 101. The holding block 109 is provided along the middle part of the
frame 101 and is press fitted to the frame 101. The channel 105 is fitted to the frame
101 using mechanical fasteners such as the screws 104. The plate 106 is configured
to be attached to the channel 105 to increase the thickness of the surface area of the

channel 105. The attachment of the plate 106 to the channel 105 may be done
through welding.
[0032] In an embodiment, the plate 106 may be configured to receive the
channel spirit level 108. The spirit level 108 is a standard equipment for determining
the level (horizontal or vertical) with respect to the ground and will not be explained
in detail.
[0033] Referring to FIG. 4, the bush 110 is fitted in the channel 105 for the
locating the pin 103. The bush 110 comprises a main body 404 and a flange 402,
wherein both the body 404 and the flange 402 define a through-hole 406. The pin
103 is introduced within the through-hole 406.
[0034] Referring back to FIGs. 1 and 2, the pin 103 is configured to locate a
reference axis on the separator pipe 500.
[0035] The steel ruler 113 are attached to the length of the frame 101 along the
strip 304 (shown in FIG. 3). The steel ruler 113 are used for measurements.
[0036] In an embodiment, a single steel ruler 113 may be used to the entire
length of the frame 101 or two steel rulers 113 may be used one each on either side
of the axis XX (shown in FIG. 3).
[0037] The plurality of sliding arms 111, with one each on one side of the axis
XX, is provided along the strip 304 of the frame 101. The sliding arms 111 are
configured to slide along the length of the strip 304. Each of the sliding arm 111
comprises a cover 112 with screws 102. The screws 102 are configured to lock the
sliding arm 111 with the cover 112 to prevent it from sliding along the length of the
frame 101.
[0038] Each sliding arm 111 comprises a marking pin 107 such that the
marking pin 107 slides when the sliding arm 111 slides and does not move along
the length of the frame 101 when the sliding arm 111 is locked to the frame 101
with the cover 112. The marking pin 107 is configured to mark the separator nozzle
hole on the separator pipe 500.

[0039] The making pin 107 is free to move up and down with respect to the
sliding arm 111 and can be held in a particular position with respect to the sliding
arm 111 by tightening and untightening screws.
WORKING OF THE MARKING TOOL 100
[0040] Referring to FIG. 5, the marking tool 100 is placed over the separator
pipe 500 on which the marking is to be done. The markings are done on the
circumference of the separator pipe 500.
[0041] The marking tool 100 is placed on the separator pipe 500 by locating
the reference axis on the separator pipe 500 using the locating pin 103 and the spirit
level 108.
[0042] Once the reference axis is located and set on the separator pipe 500, the
sliding arms 111 are moved along the length of the frame 101 to the dimension
required in the drawing. The dimensions are measured using the steel ruler 113.
Once the dimension is set, the sliding arm 111 is clamped to the frame 101 using
the cover 112 and the screws 102.
[0043] Once the sliding arm 111 is fixed against movement, the screws are
loosened for the marking pin 107 to be released from the sliding arm 111. The
marking pins 107 gently drop on the separator pipe 500. The points where the
marking pins 107 touch the separator pipe 500 are marked for marking the separator
nozzle hole.
