Abstract: In accordance with the present subject matter there is provided a method of inducing coppicing in Casuarina. The method comprises the steps of obtaining harvested tree stumps of 0.3-0.7m in height and applying at least two cycles of treatment. The treatment consists of the following: i. pruning; ii. hormones; iii. fertilizer; and iv. irrigation. There is also provided a kit comprising: a) at least one hormone; and b) at least one fertilizer. Application of the contents of the kit induces coppicing in Casuarina.
CLIAMS:1. A method of inducing coppicing in Casuarina, said method comprising:
a. obtaining harvested tree stumps of 0.3-0.7m in height;
b. applying at least two cycles of treatment wherein each treatment comprises:
i. pruning;
ii. hormones;
iii. fertilizer; and
iv. irrigation,
wherein said method induces coppicing.
2. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said Casuarina is selected from the group consisting of Casuarina cunninghamiana, Casuarina equisetifolia, Casuarina glauca , Casuarina junghuhniana, and combinations thereof.
3. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein application of first treatment cycle is after 30 days of obtaining harvested tree stumps of 0.3-0.7m in height.
4. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein application of second treatment cycle is after about 30-45 days of application of first treatment.
5. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein pruning is done to retain 2-4 shoots per tree stump.
6. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the hormone concentration in first treatment cycle or second treatment cycle is about 250-1000 ppm.
7. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein the hormone is selected from the group consisting of naphthalene acetic acid, giberellic acid, 6-benzylaminopurine, kinetin, brassinosteroids, and combinations thereof.
8. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein hormones are applied via spraying on tree stumps or drenching of tree stumps or by application on tree stumps by optional prior mixing of hormones with said fertilizer.
9. The method as claimed in claim 1, wherein fertilizer is selected from the group consisting of phosphate fertilizers, nitrogen fertilizers, phosphorus fertilizers and combinations thereof.
10. A kit comprising:
a. at least one hormone; and
b. at least one fertilizer.
11. The kit as claimed in claim 10, wherein the hormone is selected from the group consisting of naphthalene acetic acid, giberellic acid, 6-benzylaminopurine, kinetin, brassinosteroids, and combinations thereof, and wherein the fertilizer is selected from the group consisting of diammonium phosphate, nitrogen fertilizers, phosphorus fertilizers and combinations thereof.
12. A method of inducing coppicing in Casuarina, said method comprising at least two cycles of :
a. pruning a harvested tree stump; and
b. applying the contents of a kit as claimed in claim10 for at least two cycles,
wherein the time period between the first cycle and the second cycle is 30- 45 days.
