Specification

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to wind electric generators. The present invention
particularly relates to a method for installation of bearing housing / generator /
gearbox for wind electric generators which are placed inside the nacelle, on top
of lattice towers without the use of crane. More particularly, the present
Invention relates to a method and device for installation, dismantling and re -
installation of a wind generator at a higher height without the aid of a long -
boomed higher capacity crane.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Wind electric generators are used to convert wind energy Into electrical energy.
Wind electric generator consists of a generator, a gearbox, a bearing housing, a
hub and a plurality of blades placed inside a nacelle. These parts can be
individually installed, and / or dismantled for repair and reinstallation. The
nacelle is installed on top of a tower. The height of the tower is generally more
than 30M and the nacelle being at this height, installation and / or dismantling
for repair and reinstallation of the parts such as generator / gearbox bearing /
housing require a high - capacity crane with a boom length sufficient to reach
the required height. Engagement of special cranes to carry out this activity is
costlier and further availability of special cranes In remote places cannot be
ensured as and when needed.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore, an object of the present invention to propose a method and
device for installation, dismantling and re - installation of a wind generator at a
higher height without the aid of a long - boomed higher capacity crane which
eliminates the disadvantages of the prior art.
Another object of the present invention is to propose a device for installation,
dismantling and re - installation of a wind generator at a higher height without
the aid of a long - boomed higher capacity crane.
A further object of the Invention is to propose a method and device for
installation, dismantling and re - installation of a wind generator at a higher
height without the aid of a long - boomed higher capacity crane which is
economic, simple and easy to maintain.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly, there is provided a method for installation, and / or dismantling and
reinstallation of a wind generator at a higher height without the aid of a long -
boomed higher capacity crane, the generator comprising atleast one bearing
housing, a generator, a gearbox, a hub with plurality of blades, and a nacelle
with frame accommodating all the generator components, the nacelle being
disposed on the top portion of a tower, the method comprising the steps of:
providing a device having atleast two longitudinal members reieasably fixable by
a plurality of fastening members so as to form a rigid-gantry-crane frame-like
structure when fixed, and a structural prevision to mount a chain pulley block on
a bottom member of said atleast two longitudinal members; mounting a chain -
pulley block on said structural provision; fixing the device mounted with the
chain - pulley block to the nacelle frame; removing the hub with blades from a
main shaft of the wind generator and fastenably holding it at a selected height
on the tower; sequentially detaching the generator, the gear box, and the
bearing housing from the wind generator by repeatedly adapting the device at
each location, and lowering the components individually and serially at the
ground level using the chain - pulley block; and processing the dismantled
components at the ground level and lifting the components at respective
locations for re - assembly by using the device in a reverse sequence. The
invention further provides a device for installation, and / or dismantling and re -
installation of a wind generator without the aid of a long - boomed higher
capacity crane, the device being capable to adapt a chain - pulley block, the
device comprising: atleast two longitudinal members releasably fixable on
dismantable components of the wind generator, the longitudinal members being
joinable by a plurality of fastening members so as to form a rigid-crane frame-
like structure, a lower of the atleast two longitudinal members configured with a
structural provision to adapt thereon a chain - pulley block.
According to the present invention, whenever the parts of a wind electric
generator such as generator / gearbox / bearing housing are to be installed,
and / or dismantled from the nacelle, a device is mounted onto the nacelle frame
and using a chain pulley block, the parts are installed, and / or dismantled and
lowered to the ground level. Using the same device the dismantled parts are
lifted from the ground level and reassembled.
A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING
Figure 1 - Shows a schematic representation of the method and device for
carrying out the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF
THE INVENTION
The present invention is described herein below with reference to Figure -1.
As shown in Figure - 1, the device (05) comprises atieast two longitudinal
members which can be assembled together with fasteners for mounting on to a
nacelle fram (03) of the wind turbine. A chain pulley block (09) is provided to

load and unload the generator parts inside the nacelle. Individual members of
the device when fastened together with bolts and nuts, form a rigid gantry crane
frame-like-structure having a provision to releasably attach the device with the
frame (03).
To unload the wind electric generator parts such as generator / gearbox /
bearing housing from the nacelle, the device (05) is first mounted onto the
nacelle frame (03). The chain pulley block (09) is fixed on the device (05). At the
next step using the device, a hub with plurality of blades (08) are removed from
the main shaft of the generator and firmly tied to a tower (01) at a selected
tower height where it can firmly rest on the tower members. Couplings of parts
such as a generator (04) / a gearbox (06) / a bearing housing (07) which are to
be dismantled are disconnected and using the Chain pulley block (09). The
components are removed individually and sequentially and lowered on to the
ground for further processing.
Re - assembly is carried out using the same device (05) and the Chain pulley
block (09).
