DESC:Technical Field of the Invention

The present invention relates to a multivitamin supplement compositions comprising of natural vitamins sourced from plants without inclusion of any animal cross contamination for vegan and vegetarian people.
Background of Invention

Vegan-ism is a dietary practice which involves the abstention from eating meat, poultry, fish, or other animal and animal by-products. With the improvement of material well-being, human's spiritual life and cultural qualities are changing. For example, the acceptance towards vegan/vegetarian diet is increasing. However, many vegans do not practice a proper nutritive diet. Imbalanced nutrition or overly selective diet can lead to malnutrition or deficiency of critical nutrients.
As a result of these dietary exclusions several nutrients can become limited and or omitted from the diet. The nutrients which are of greatest risk of being deficient in the daily diet include: Vitamin B complex vitamins like B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9, Vitamin B12, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin K, Vitamin E. Vitamin B12 being most deficit in vegan diet. Each of these nutrients deficiency due to inadequate intake can result health issues. The Vitamin B complex, Vitamin A, Vitamin D, Vitamin K, Vitamin E, Vitamin C has been proven for boosting immune system and fighting the illness
Vitamin B complex and Vitamin B12 contributes to normal energy yielding metabolism, normal functioning of nervous system, skin and mucous membrane, maintaining normal vision, normal metabolism of iron, protecting cell from oxidative stress, protein and glycogen metabolism and reducing tiredness and fatigue. Deficiency may lead to skin disorder, hair loss, reproductive problems, fatigue, weakness, Anemia, cognitive changes etc.
Vitamin D contributes to normal utilization of calcium and phosphorus as well maintaining calcium level in blood. It helps in maintenance of bone, teeth and muscle function hence, and its deficiency can be associated with rickets, osteomalacia, hypo- phosphatemia and hypo-calcaemia.
Vitamin K plays major role in maintenance of normal bone and blood clotting, deficiency may lead to reduction in bone strength, Osteoporosis and severe deficiency may led to increased bleeding time.

Vitamin E works as an antioxidant thus protects cell from oxidative stress. Vitamin E has been used since the 1950s to help protect skin against aging and sun damage, deficiency can lead to immuno-modulation, anti-platelet effects and in some cases hair fall.
Vitamin A is necessary for the function of light-sensitive nerve cells (photoreceptors) thus helps in maintenance of night vision, iron metabolism, normal skin and functioning of immune system. Deficiency of vitamin A can lead to vision impairment, dry skin, Infertility etc.

Detailed Description of the Invention

The remedy for nutritional deficiency is usually to include foods that contain sufficient amounts of these nutrients. However, this remedy requires considerable knowledge in the area of nutritional science and great attention to daily dietary consumption. This may also require the consumption of large amounts of particular foods or the consumption of foods which are found to be unacceptable, undesirable or even inaccessible to some vegan/vegetarians. For a person who prefers a vegan/vegetarian diet, the supplements from animal origin are not a choice. The composition of the present invention addresses the problem by providing the daily required vitamins in the form of supplements that originate

from plants. Thus, these supplements have a universal acceptance among the consumers, both with vegan/vegetarian or non-vegan/non-vegetarian preferences.
The advantage of the vitamin supplement of the invention is that the vegan/vegetarian consumer does not require difficult dietary planning or extensive knowledge of nutritional sources and is not forced to consume prescribed food items of doubtful origin in order to prevent nutrient deficiencies. One dose of the supplement can provide the deficient vitamins in amounts which can significantly contribute to the prevention of daily nutrient deficiencies.
The present invention, therefore, provides a more convenient and simple method of daily supplementation as well as offering vegan/vegetarians a greater sense of confidence in the safety of their diet. Being natural and plant based helps in minimizing the harmful effect of synthetic vitamins
The supplement contains more than one vitamin or in other words the supplement is a multivitamin supplement. The advantage is that of convenience of dosing and cost effectiveness. The disadvantage of a single vitamin containing supplement is that it is inefficient both in terms of costs involved as well as the amount of doses which must be taken along with other vitamin supplements.
The present multivitamin supplement advantageously provides a customized dietary product which provides the nutrients which can be deficient in a daily diet and ensures that all ingredients are of a non-animal based origin. The supplement can eliminate the need for vegetarians to engage in difficult dietary regimens or to consume unacceptable foods in order to meet nutrient needs. It also can provide the vegan/vegetarian consumer with some security that the vitamins which are lacking in the diet are provided by the supplement and also the assurance that the product is free of any content of animal origin.
The nutrients which will be supplemented by multivitamin supplement include Vitamin B complex that includes vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B7, B9; vitamin B12, vitamin C, vitamin D or vitamin D3, vitamin K2 7, vitamin E and vitamin A.
Natural vitamin B complex may be extracted from natural sources like basil, lemon and guava leaf which is standardized to get vitamin B1 (more than 0.1%), vitamin B2 (more than 0.1%), vitamin B3 (more than 2.0%), vitamin B5 (more than 1.50%), vitamin B6 (more than 0.1%), vitamin B7 (more than 0.1%), vitamin B9 (more than 1.0%). The individual vitamins of the B complex can be contributed by one plant extract or a mixture of two or

more plant extracts. The unit dose of the multivitamin supplement contains from about 0.001 grams to about 1.0 grams of natural vitamin B complex, preferably, from about 0.01 grams to
1.0 grams.

Natural vitamin B12 may be extracted from natural sources such as porcini mushrooms, parasol mushrooms, oyster mushrooms, black morels, the fruiting bodies of black trumpet and golden chanterelle algae like dried green laver and purple laver or via fermentation of corn standardized to more than 0.01%. The unit dose of the multivitamin supplement contains from about 0.0001 grams to about 0.1 grams of natural vitamin B12, preferably, from about 0.0001 grams to 0.01 grams.
Natural vitamin C may be extracted from natural sources like lemon, acerola and amla and can be processed to have concentration starting from 0.5%. The unit dose of the multivitamin supplement contains from about 0.01 grams to about 0.5 grams of natural vitamin C, preferably, from about 0.01 grams to 0.1gram.
Natural vitamin D3 may be extracted from natural sources like lichen and mushroom which can be opted to have concentration starting from 100 IU. The unit dose of the multivitamin supplement contains from about 0.0001 grams to about 0.005 grams of natural vitamin D3, preferably, from about 0.0004 grams to 0.004 grams.
Natural vitamin K2 7 may be extracted from a natural source like kale, spinach extract, and vegetable oils or via fermentation of natural ingredients like chickpea that can be opted to have concentration starting from 10 mg. The unit dose of the multivitamin supplement contains from about 0.0001 grams to about 0.005 grams of natural vitamin K2, preferably, from about 0.001 grams to 0.05 grams, preferably, from about 0.001 grams to about 0.03 grams.
Natural vitamin E or alpha/mixed-tocopherol may be extracted from natural sources like edible vegetable oils, sunflower seed extract, soy beans extract, almond, peanut, peanut butter, asparagus, mango, and avocado can be opted to have concentration starting from 3mg of alpha/mixed-tocopherol. The unit dose of the multivitamin supplement contains from about 0.01 grams to about 0.5 grams of natural vitamin E, preferably, from about 0.05 grams to 0.2 grams.
Natural vitamin A (retinol or beta-carotene) may be extracted from natural source like edible vegetable oils or vegetables like moringa, carrot and sweet potatoes which can be opted to have concentration starting from 100 IU. The unit dose of the multivitamin

supplement contains from about 0.0001 grams to about 0.5 grams of natural vitamin A, preferably, from about 0.001 grams to 0.01 grams.
The multivitamin supplement can be formulated in the form of tablets, capsules, liquid, semi-liquid, gum, candy or powder in a recommended dosage for a daily dosing. This supplement may also contain other non-medicinal ingredients which will serve as product binders, fillers, solvents and preservatives, all of which are of non-animal origin, preferably derived from plant sources. For example, when the dosage form is a capsule, the capsule shell may be made of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose which is of plant origin. Thus, a gelatine capsule use is avoided. In fact none of the ingredients included in this supplement are of animal origin, therefore making it suitable and acceptable for even the strictest vegan/vegetarian diet. The supplement offers a new alternative to vitamin supplementation of the vegan/vegetarian diet though the standardization of vitamin content to meet the unique nutritional needs and dietary practice requirements of the vegetarian population.
The multivitamin supplement can also be administered topically. The multivitamin supplement composition can be formulated into topical compositions such as cream, ointment, emulsion, lotion, shampoo, solution or gel. The topical compositions may be advantageous for individuals who may have issues with swallowing the oral based delivery of the supplement.
The vitamins may be extracted by solvents from plant materials with inclusion of minimal process to meet the natural label requirement and standardized to contain specific amount of vitamins consistently.
