Optimised Aggregation Cost Model For Bio Gas Generation

Abstract: Optimized aggregation cost model is based on our innovative layout design. The layout design is based on physical and chemical properties of material handled during the process. The process innovation to design the layout is useful in reducing the aggregation cost of low bulk density solid-state material, where a) Cost of first mile collection is high b) Intermediate products are either densified or are in matter state where it can conveyed using less input energy /cost conveying systems The process innovation is designed specifically for utilization of low bulk density biomass for the production of Biogas. High cost of first mile collection of low bulk density biomass is due to small size of farms available in India. Small size of the Farm limits the use of technology in farming and due to less time available between two subsequent crops, the farmer is left with limited options to prepare his farm for the next crop. The result is stubble burning and unsustainable agriculture practices. For straw quantity collected up to a radial distance of 4 kilometres can be managed by utilizing local available resources but for quantities involving collection area with radial distance greater than 4 kilometres, conventional method is costly enough to restrict the usage of straw for large scale processing into any form of industrially valuable products. The process layout suggested below should be checked for cost-benefit analysis as compared to other aggregation methods. The success of process layout in reducing the cost of aggregation depends upon the bulk density of the material to be collected and bulk density/ density of the intermediate products produced during the process as well as their physical state. The process innovation can also be used for other similar materials with similar process requirements.

Description:The present process innovation depicts an aggregation model to optimize the cost for high quantity industrial processing of low bulk density solid-state material with high first mile cost of collection to generate Biogas with minimum input energy / cost.
Numerical quantification of “high quantity”, “low Bulk density”, and “high first mile cost” is intentionally not mentioned in the process innovation document, since, these shall depend upon varying real situations and thus, the process has to be adopted only after doing a proper cost-benefit analysis as compared to other used/conventional methods such as belt conveyor, pipe conveyor, railway wagons, and road transportation vehicles.

Claims:Process steps claimed as part of our innovation are as given below:
1. Collection of solid-state material in a common location for first stage of material processing
2. Material processing results into more densified intermediate products or the intermediate product is in a different physical state such as gas or liquid
3. Checking the chemical properties of all the intermediate products for application of low cost mass conveying system
4. Pre-processing the intermediate product for identified conveying system
5. Transportation of pre-processed gas through pipelines using centrifugal pumps
6. Transportation of slurry through pipelines using centrifugal pumps
7. Transportation of densified solid using conventional transportation
8. Centralized processing of the collected intermediate products to reduce capital and operational expenditure per unit of input raw material .
