DESC:ORAL CARE HERBAL COMPOSITION AND PREPARATION METHOD THEREOF
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention relates to the field of oral care and oral hygiene. More particularly, the present invention relates to an absolute herbal composite composition without any chemical additives, which is effective against several dental problems. Advantageously, the herbal composition of the present invention is provided in a user friendly convenient usage form such as tooth pellets.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Oral hygiene products are indispensable cleaning and oral care product in people's daily life. Oral care products commonly used includes toothpaste, mouthwash, tooth powder, etc. Their basic function is to clean teeth, protect gums, and maintain oral health. Residual food particles in the oral cavity, promotes the survival of bacteria leading to bad breath and other dental problems. A variety of microorganisms are present in the oral cavity ranging from natural flora of the host to pathogenic species. Bacterial aggregation on the teeth is known as plaque which is a dense, enamel-adherent, microorganism-containing polysaccharide matrix causing dental caries, gingivitis, periodontitis and other gum diseases. Specific areas, including periodontal and sub gingival spaces and interpapillary spaces of the tongue proves to be the best environment that harbor these bacteria. Therefore protecting gums and periodontal tissues is a more urgent need of the hour. In order to prevent and treat oral inflammation, removal of plaque, to inhibit and remove oral harmful microorganisms, the most common method used is brushing of teeth using toothbrush. However, some oral spaces are difficult to reach by cleaning with a toothbrush. Mechanical methods such as dental floss and inter-space brushes have been used for the prevention of dental plaque, but have not generally achieved the desired results. Studies have shown these mechanical methods do not efficiently eliminate plaque. Persistence of these microorganisms in the oral cavity greatly increases the risk of calculus and plaque build up and caries formation, which in turn presents the danger of gingival inflammation and periodontal disease. Therefore chemical plaque control as a substitute and/or in combination with mechanical methods is sought.
Toothpaste is the most common chemical product which is used for cleaning of oral dirt and prevent oral diseases. It is widely used in daily brushing, and frequency of daily usage is quite high. With continuous development and improvement in technology, various types of toothpaste have been introduced in the market with improved quality and grade ranging from single clean toothpaste to a full range of products with various functions. Toothpastes generally consist of abrasives, surfactants, binders, wetting agents, antimicrobial preservatives, and other adjunct ingredients. These chemically synthesized substances are added as main active components in toothpastes to enhance its shelf-life and therapeutic effect, but its long-term usage leads to harmful deposition of toxic chemicals in the body. At present, a considerable part of them are fluoride based toothpaste which pose greater risk on children and adults, because of its toxic nature, and causes thin teeth and reduced hardness of the bones. Whereas other chemicals like chlorhexidine is known to stain teeth, cause tissue necrosis of the tongue and gums, and also have poor cleansing qualities; Chlorometallic isothiazolinone (CMIT) or Methylisothiazolinone (MIT), which is added as an antimicrobial preservative, has been reported to cause lung fibrosis and lung damage; parabens and triclosan, which are used antioxidants may disturb the secretion of hormones and cause cancer; synthetic surfactants used in toothpaste have been reported to cause mucosal dislocation, ulcers, stomatitis, gum pain, and atopy. Tooth product formulations comprising of these chemicals and synthetic products have long been found to have adverse effect including high safety hazards, large side effects and high irritation. Accordingly, there arose a requirement to develop a tooth product which has excellent efficacy and safety by minimizing the risk of side effects and not consisting of various harmful components as described above. Therefore, the use of herbal components in the oral care products gained importance and have become a major research direction.
With the emergence of environmental pollution, ecological imbalances and other issues, consumers are paying more attention to the safety of products, and thus increasingly advocating natural and safe products. With the increasing awareness on health care, people pay more attention to herbal formulations, which is applied as an active ingredient to oral hygiene products to promote fresh breath, care for gums and maintain good oral function. Herbal components which effectively prevent and treat various oral diseases is favored by people because of its reduced side effects, green, environmental protection and high safety. The consumer demand for such products in the market is growing. In addition to the basic functions of tooth cleaning, the requirements for toothpaste have increased to prevent the oral diseases. Therefore, almost all toothpastes and mouthwashes on the market are added with various chemical medicines to prevent and cure various oral diseases which may have adverse side effects with long term usage. Therefore there exists a need in the art for herbal oral care products which is completely devoid of any chemical components and also providing both oral hygiene and oral care functions.
