Real Biomethanation Potential

Abstract: ABSTRACT REAL BIOMETHANATION POTENTIAL A R-BMP assay method to measure a biochemical methane potential from anaerobic digestion (AD) of feedstock added at intervals includes initiating an anaerobic digestion process in a bioreactor by using feedstock and inoculum, wherein the feedstock comprises of pretreated feedstock or untreated feedstock, and the inoculum comprises of hydrolytic organisms, acidogenic organisms, acetogenic organisms, and methanogenic organisms, frequently determining the following parameters of the feedstock immediately prior to adding to the digester through the input line: total solid content (TS), volatile solid content (VS), and carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratio repetitively, feeding the bioreactor with the feedstock at predefined intervals according to the hydraulic retention time (HRT) and organic loading rate (OLR) of the digester, frequently collecting and analyzing the excess digestate that flows through the overflow line, to measure at least one of the following parameters: pH, TS, VS, Acidity, Alkalinity, C/N Ratio, Volatile Fatty Acid (VFA) content, Ammonical Nitrogen, or combination thereof, and measuring the biochemical methane potential as the volume of biogas generated per gram of volatile solids degraded per day, using the parameters measured from the feedstock and the digestate.
