3. PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION
The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed : -
Remote Operated Power Saving Device
Field of Invention :
The present invention relates to saving of power by completely disconnecting an Electronic Appliance from the mains supply after its use. More particularly, it relates to a Remote Operated Power saving device which is connected between Electronic Appliance and the mains supply.
Prior Art :
Almost all mains operated Electronic Appliances today are operated through a remote control. These appliances are also switched off mostly through the remote control. While the appliance is made off through the remote it goes to "stand-by" mode and continues to consume electrical power. In the "stand-by" mode, the internal circuits of the electronic appliance are still connected to mains supply and consume precious power. This is a sheer wastage of electrical energy.
Hence, there is a need to provide a mechanism which will overcome the aforesaid problem.
Object of Invention :
The object of the present invention is to provide a Remote Operated Power Saving device which completely disconnects the Electronic Appliance from mains supply once the Electronic Appliance is switched "off" through its remote, control and thereby avoid wastage of electricity.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a Remote Operated Power Saving device which disconnects the electronic appliance from mains supply if there
2
is a short circuit in the appliance or the appliance consumes very high power due to some internal defects.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a Remote Operated Power Saving device which disconnects the electronic appliance from the mains supply if the appliance goes to "stand-by" mode.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a remote operated power saving device which is compact, simple in construction and cost effective.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a Remote Operated Power Saving device which itself consumes very little power.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a remote operated power saving device which is long lasting.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a remote operated power saving device which is easy to operate.
Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a remote operated power saving device which is compatible to almost all kinds of remote control operated Electronic Appliances.
Accordingly, to achieve the aforementioned objects, a Remote Operated Power Saving device is provided, to be connected between the mains power supply and the power supply unit of an Electronic Appliance, the said device comprises of :
A Remote Control (RC) unit having at least one key to remotely operate the said power saving device;
3
A Signal Receiving (SRC) unit for sensing the signal from remote control unit;
A Power Switching (PSW) unit for connecting or disconnecting the mains power supply to power supply unit of an Electronic Appliance (EA). The input of the said power switching unit is connected to the Mains Power Supply (MPS) and the output side of the. said Power Switching unit is connected to the Power Supply unit of an electronic appliance;
A Control Circuit (CC) unit which is connected to the input sides of the PSW unit and the SRC unit, for, receiving the sensed signal from the SRC unit and to provide the control command to the PSW unit for connecting or disconnecting the mains power supply to the power supply unit of an electronic appliance; and
A Current Sensor (CS) Unit which is connected to the said PSW unit and CC unit for sensing the power drawn by the electrical appliance and sends signal to the said CC unit in case the power drawn is beyond admissible limits.

Detail Description of the Invention :
The above, and the other objects, features & advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
Referring to figure 1, the electronic appliance (EA) is connected to the mains power supply (MPS) through the power saver (PS). An electronic appliance (EA) like a Television can be completely disconnected from the mains power supply (MPS) through the power saver (PS). The power saver (PS) is operated by remote control (RC). The power saver (PS) senses the signal from a remote control (RC) and disconnects the electronic appliance (EA) from mains power supply (MPS).
Now referring to figure 2, the detailed diagram of the power saver (PS) in accordance to present invention. The power saver (PS) comprises of a power switch (PSW), a control circuit (CC), a signal reception circuit (SRC) and a remote control (RC).
When the electronic appliance (EA) is switched "off" through its own remote control, the electronic appliance (EA) goes into stand by mode. Over a period of time this wastes a lot of electricity. To discontinue the connectivity between the electronic appliance (EA) and the mains power supply (MPS) completely, the power saver (PS) is operated through the remote control (RC). When the key on the remote control (RC) is operated/pressed, the same is sensed by the signal reception circuit (SRC). This sensed signal is given to the control circuit (CC). Accordingly, the control circuit (CC) provides a signal to the power switch (PSW) which makes the power switch (PSW) go into the OFF state, thereby completely disconnecting the electronic appliance (EA) from the mains power supply (MPS).
5
The Current Sensor Unit continuously senses the current being drawn by the electronic appliance (EA). If for some reason, the electronic appliance (EA) goes into the "stand by" mode, the Current sensor unit senses that the Electronic appliance is drawing power below specified limits and sends a signal to the control circuit (CC). The control circuit (CC) provides control signal to the power switch (PSW). This control signal makes the power switch (PSW) go into "OFF" state, thereby completely disconnecting the electronic appliance (EA) from the mains power supply (MPS).
If the electronic appliance (EA) starts drawing high current due to some fault, the Current sensor unit senses that the Electronic appliance is drawing power beyond specified limits and sends signal to the control circuit (CC). Accordingly, the control circuit (CC) provides control signal to the power switch (PSW). This control signal makes the power switch (PSW) go into "OFF" state, thereby completely disconnecting the electronic appliance (EA) from the mains power supply (MPS).
The power saver (PS) of present invention can be implemented in various ways. It can be manufactured as a wall mount unit by providing the appropriate housing to power saver (PS) components. It can be built in with the mains plug. The power saver circuit can be inbuilt in electronic appliance itself. The remote control (KC) of power saver (PS) and remote control of electronic appliance (EA) may be one and the same i.e. both power saver (PS) and electronic appliance (EA) may be operated by the same remote control. It is also possible to operate both power save (PS) and electronic appliance (EA) may be operated by a single remote control. It is possible to operate the Power Saver (PS) by its own remote control. It may also be possible to operate the PS from the remote control of die EA.
The PS can also be made without the CS unit, in such a case the PS shall continue to save power through the manual switching/ operating of Remote Control only. In such an instance the PS may not provide short circuit protection of the EA.
6
Industrial Application:
The device of the present invention can be used along with electronic appliances which are being used for domestic as well as industrial purposes. This device saves Power, thereby reduces the electricity bill.
The present invention is not limited to the above described embodiments, and various changes may be made, if desired, without departing from the essence or spirit of the invention which can be read from the claims and the entire specification. All these changes are also intended to be within technical scope of the present invention.
