Abstract: The present invention relates to a saddle bag cum backpack assembly (1) to be used upon motor cycles which are provided with length adjustable locking means (2) to enable the adjustment of the saddle bag assembly (1) as per size of the seat of the motorcycle. The three parallel straps and corresponding detachable lateral locks buckle assembly (2a, 2b, 2c) can be adjusted to aid snug fit of the saddle bag assembly with the motorcycle of different sizes. The present invention provided with means for easy conversion of the saddle bag into backpack or even into independent sling bags as per need.
FIELD OF INVENTION:
This invention relates to a pannier style saddle bag assembly to be used upon motor cycles and width strips can be adjusted as per size of the seat. The invention is also provided with mechanism for easy conversion of the saddle bags into a back pack and also for conversion to individual sling bags.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION:
The motorcycle riders have since long been facing numerous issues with generic saddle bags used for motorcycle. Saddle bags are carried in pair slung over the back of a beast of burden or side of bicycle or motor cycle. Saddles are basically meant for the horses and the saddle bags to be used with bicycle and motorcycles have been imported from there.
Since the requirements of a horse rider and motorcycle or bicycle rider are different, hence the saddle bags are also different. However, there are a lot many problems in the generic saddle bags used for motor cycles and bicycles which are regularly faced by the riders.
The biggest problem faced by the motorcycle/ bicycle riders is that in a generic pannier style bag assembly saddle bags are connected with a fixed length fabric/ straps/ other connecting means to each other due to which it does not fit to all motorcycles seat width of which varies greatly from each other. A typical saddle bag does not fit all shapes, sizes and contours of motorcycle seats because of its fixed width design which makes it drooping on either side which is also a risk, as they can come in contact with hot silencer or can get entangled in the running wheels.
The generic saddle bags for motorcycles have only one use and that is they can only be used over motor cycle. They are virtually useless for any other purpose because they are too tedious to be carrying around. A generic saddle bag due to its fixed width design is
very difficult to carry on shoulders and even it causes strain on the spine of the carrying person.
Attempts to overcome the limitation and problems of generic saddle bags are being made since decades which presented with different assemblies with different specialties from time to time. Some of them are too expensive/ complex/ bulky due their large number of components and complex structures. Some of them even require additional frames/ supports to be mounted over the motorbike for their working.
In US 424324A, an improvement in combined saddle bags and hand trunks is provided by providing means for securing the section of trunk together and for disconnecting the sections when they are to be used as saddle bags.
In US 3786972A, a pair of stiff-backed compartmentalized fabric bags having marginal fasteners for use in releasably connecting the bags together in back-to-back relation so as to form a unitary valise and, in addition, a three-hook harness subassembly on the back of each bag by means of which they can either be hung on opposite sides of a rear fender luggage carrier of a bicycle to form pannier bags or, alternatively, fastened in stacked superimposed relation on a pack frame to form a back pack.
In US 4241857A, a saddle bag for use on motorcycles is provided with a recessed handle on the top surface thereof. The bad is shaped to have a wider bottom and an angled side wall upon which is mounted a bottom hinged door. The bag is balanced in such a way that when lifted by the handle, it will pivot about the handle such that the angled side wall and door fall in a substantially vertical plane. A person carrying he bag with the door next to the leg will have the door parallel to the leg and not in a position to bump or tangle said leg. A part of the bottom wall of the bag is angled such that with the bag in position on a motorcycle, the bag is not likely to drag on the ground as the cycle goes around corners or as the cycle lays over.
In view of the foregoing, it would be advancement in the art to provide a novel pennier style saddle bag assembly specifically configured to be mounted to a motorbike or like vehicles or that may be man portable as a backpack or as independent sling bags. It would also be advancement in the art to provide a novel saddle bag development which is readily adaptable for numerous articles being secured there to. It would also be an advancement in the art to provide a novel saddle bag assembly that is readily adapted to be securely mounted on any of the foregoing vehicles in such a manner so as to inhibit shifting, flopping or any other undue movement during travel through rough terrain or traveling gat rapid pace or in cause of sudden braking. Such an invention is disclosed and claimed herein.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The shortcomings of the generic pannier style saddle bags assembly used on motorcycles are overcome and additional advantages are provided interalia through the provision of detachable buckle mechanism introduced to attach both saddle bags.
The three straps serve the purpose of fitting any shape, contour and size of the seat which is not possible with fixed length fabric used to attach both saddle bags in generic pannier style saddle bags assembly. Also, the three straps can be adjusted to aid snug fit the saddle bag assembly with the motorcycle. The whole mechanism is designed keeping in mind the principles of engineering mechanics which helps in keeping in balance huge load on either side bags without any risk of the corresponding bag coming in contact with hot silencer or getting entangled with the wheels.
