The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention relates to the field of orthodontics. More particularly the present invention relates to Orthodontic Bracket System for orthodontic treatment to transfer force to move teeth from labial and lingual side.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION AND PRIOR ART:
Orthodontics is the department concerned with correction of mal-aligned teeth into a proper alignment. For making these corrections, force is required which need to be transferred to those particular teeth to be moved. For that force generation wires, springs or elastics are commonly used, and brackets are used as medium to transfer that force. For achieving proper tooth movement ligation (engagement of wire in bracket) plays very important role. There are different types of ligation techniques to secure wire inside the bracket like elastomeric ligation using elastomeric rings, metallic ligation using metallic ligature wires, or self-ligation using an inherited door which engages wire inside the slot. Main drawbacks with previous ligation techniques like elastomeric ligation is force decay within 24 hours, hygiene maintenance problem. With metallic ligation laceration to the oral mucosa is there if not tucked properly and more chairside time. Especially from lingual side to do the treatment for the patients who wants invisible orthodontic treatment ligation is very difficult and it is so much time consuming. With Self ligation it is very easy for clinician with reducing chair side time, for patient ligature wire trauma can be reduced. In Self ligating brackets a gross division as Active self-ligating and Passive self-ligating is there. In Active self-ligating brackets, the door is flexible which exerts force on to the wire and in passive self-ligating brackets door is rigid which won’t exerts force on to the wire. Each design is having its own merits and demerits. Disadvantage with active self-ligating bracket is increased friction which exerts force on wire making it difficult for sliding mechanics in extraction cases. To overcome this problem interactive version of active brackets were introduced. Main disadvantage with passive self-ligating bracket was inefficiency in transferring values which were there in the bracket to the teeth.
Thus there are different self-ligating brackets were available.
Classified like Active Self-ligating and Passive Self-ligating Brackets available from various companies. In Active self-ligating brackets door is flexible which exerts force on to the wire. In Passive self-ligating Brackets door is rigid which won’t exerts force on to the wire.
With Active self-ligating brackets the doors are flexible and wont give that much comfort in opening and closing. For patient for maintenance also not that much comfortable. This flexible door creates friction which makes difficulty to slide wire in the slot.
With Passive self- ligating brackets till now available they are not transferring the values properly which were there in the brackets to the teeth because of its slot depth of .028 inch. Further lack of rotational control because of less mesiodistal dimension. Furthermore added bulk because of additional auxiliary slots. Moreover they are without inherent hooks. Further door also not that much secure because of only one pin used for the support. They were made as two-piece technique so errors in brazing process may arise. Variable torque prescription with multiple brackets makes it difficult to use clinically. Previous self-ligating brackets have one pin to support door opening and closing because of which door don’t have that much stability. In Lingual side a proper self-ligation is till date not available which provides 3 dimensional control. Thus in the evolution lot of brackets came but not fulfilled in all aspects up to the mark. Therefore there exist a need in the state of art to fabricate an Orthodontic Bracket System which is devoid of above said drawbacks.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION:
The present invention discloses a Selfy Orthodontic Bracket System for coupling arch wire with tooth by 4-point contact to provide maximum expression with the bracket thereby transferring the force to move teeth from labial and lingual side.
SELFY Orthodontic Bracket design is done for orthodontic treatment purpose making it to be useful for transferring the force to move the teeth from labial and lingual side. This SELFY bracket is a type of self-ligating bracket design. The name of SELFY stands for S-Secured ligating, E-Ergonomically designed, L-Light continuous force acting, F-friction less, Y-Yieldable. For engaging wire into this bracket slot an inherited passive self-ligating door with support of two nitinol pins is used. When door is open pins are in compressed chamber of door. When closed they will be in relaxed chamber of door providing a stable door opening with tactile feeling while closing the door. This is an interactive version in passive self-ligating brackets. Changing of slot depth from .028 inch to .026 inch is going to give proper control. This bracket is designed to simplify Labial and Lingual Orthodontics with Selfy Labial and Selfy Lingual Designs. In Labial it is designed in 2 variants as one-piece and two-piece.
SELFY Bracket design was done to make the Orthodontic treatment process easier. This bracket is designed to simplify Labial and Lingual Orthodontics with Selfy Labial and Selfy Lingual Designs. In Labial it is designed in 2 variants as one-piece and two-piece.
Unique features of this bracket design are
1. Selfy Door Mechanism – It consist of 2 Nitinol pins with door consisting of 2 Chambers – Compressed and Relaxed Chambers. When door is open pins are in compressed chamber of door. When closed they will be in relaxed chamber of door providing a stable door opening with tactile feeling while closing the door.
2. Bracket design is available in multi variants. It is available as Labial and Lingual.
3. In Labial it is available as one-piece bracket and two-piece bracket designs.
4. In One-piece Bracket Design head and base of the bracket are a single piece. For getting additional bond strength the base design is having integral projections with edge rim lock design and channel opening on occlusal side to make flush to come from occlusal side and removing of flush will become easier. For Canines and premolars, it is having integral hooks for engaging elastics easily. For getting integral hooks, door opening pattern in lower brackets changed towards gingival side from occlusal side which used to be in previous other passive self-ligating brackets. Single versatile prescription given rather than variable torque prescriptions in previous designs. Slot dimension is .022x.026 inch.
5. In Two-piece bracket design head and base are merged by latest laser welding process unlike previous brazing process which minimizes bond failure between head and base of the bracket and provides feasibility for base customization. Vertical auxiliary slot provision for placing drop in hooks is available without integral hooks. Slot dimension is .022x.026 inch.
6. Lingual bracket is available with slot dimension of .018x.026 inch. Basic compensation of 60 Degrees in upper anteriors, 45 degrees in lower anteriors is available. In anteriors the door closing pattern is towards tooth surface minimizing debonding issues. Anterior brackets are having half cut spherical hooks on gingival side which provides comfort to remove excess composite flush around the brackets. Premolar brackets are having capsular hook for easy placement of elastics.
7. Both Labial and Lingual Brackets are designed in such a way when rectangular wire is placed 4-point contact will happen to provide maximum expression with the bracket.
8. Tie wing space was increased for easy and secure Elastomeric chain and Ligature use.
9. Profile of bracket was made straight rather than convex profile. So, patient won’t feel more of lip prominence.
10. On the door of the bracket numbering of the bracket is incorporated for easy identification.
11. Slot depth changed from .028 inch to .026 inch. So, the play in slot will get less and values in the bracket will be transferred to the tooth properly.
The torque and tip of the Selfy Orthodontic Bracket System of present invention is compared with different prescriptions in maxillary and mandibular arch. Table 1 provide the comparison table
Table 1 - COMPARISON TABLE
Selfy PASSIVE – one piece; Selfy+ PASSIVE – two piece
From Table 1 it is inferred that given compoensations will be useful to treat all the types of malocclusion including extraction and nonextraction line of treatment
