Smart Home Solution Using Digital Transformation

Abstract: A Smart home solution monitors the locker door status using a data pipeline that consists of an ELK (Elastic Search/Logstash/Kibana) stack. A Raspberry Pi (RPI) based IoT system gets the door status using a magnetic switch. It sends 'tweets' whenever the door status is getting changed and also periodically. An ELK stack processes these tweets and displays the door status in a dashboard. RPI is a node in a Blockchain network that consists of GCP VMs and laptop-based Blockchain nodes. An AI/Android face recognition app opens if the user shows the face and closes the locker door if the user hides the face. Also, this product involves nine digital transformation technologies such as AI, Data Science, Blockchain, Android, IoT, Cloud computing, Web3.0, Big data analytics and Social media.

[0002] This invention relates to the automation of controlling equipments and/or appliances in a home.

Introduction

[0003] A smart home solution needs to control appliances in a home such as lights, fans, HVAC, locker, sump motor, doors. It has to detect gas leakage, fire and take necessary actions. The automation is achieved by using different sensors and actuators such as relays, cameras, servo motors. The security of the home is ensured by using different techniques such as surveillance systems and cyber security. The overhead water tank is monitored and water is filled using sump motor. Artificial intelligence based voice commands, gestures and face recognition techniques are used to control the appliances, doors and lockers. Every equipment in the home is treated as an Internet of thing and controlled through the internet. For this purpose, advanced VLSI ICs such as ESP8266, Raspberry PI are used to control the electrical and electronic appliances. These boards are safely covered by 3D print based cases as shown in the drawing section. These cases are designed ergonomically to operate safely. The voice commands such as ‘on’ and ‘off’ are used to switch on lights and fans. The voice commands such as ‘close’ and ‘open’ are used to close and open the doors. An Android application supports these voice commands. Similarly, this app supports user gestures such as ‘palm’ and ‘fist’ to open and close the doors. Also, a face recognition app recognizes the face of the user to open a locker. When the face is hidden the locker door closes automatically. A cleaning robot cleans the home periodically. SUMMARY

[0009] The cases cover 1relay, 2relays and 4relays, power supply circuit boards. These cases have one base and one cover at the top. The circuit boards include ESP8266 Wifi IC which are IoT devices, can control the appliances remotely by taking commands through Internet. The power supply converts 230 volts or 110 volts AC to 5 volts DC.

[0010] Servo motors connected with ESP8266 are used to control lockers. An Android application recognizes the face of user and sends commands through Web3.0 APIs. A Blockchain node takes these commands and sends to ESP8266 to control the servo motor. This ensures cyber security and protects the locker from hackers.

[0011] A magnetic switch reads the status of locker closed or opened status and sends to Raspberry PI (RPI) microcontroller. RPI sends the status of locker closed or opened as tweets to user. These tweets are passed through an ELK (Elastic search, Logstash, Kibana) based data pipeline. Kibana displays the status of locker closed or opened on a dashboard. This brings an additional security by bringing the locker status to the immediate attention of the user.

[0012] An Artificial Intelligence(AI) based deep learning (DL) model is built with user face images. This model is used in an Android application to recognize the user face.

[0013] An AI based DL model is built with user voice. This model can recognize user voice for the commands such as ‘on’, ‘off’, ‘close’, ‘open’ etc. This model is used in an Android application to control lights, fans etc.

[0014] An AI based DL model is built with user gestures such as ‘palm’ and ‘fist’. An Android application includes this model and controls light, fan etc. When user shows ‘palm’ gesture, the light is switched off. If user shows ‘fist’ gesture, the light is switched off.

[0015] There are multiple sensors used to detect water level in an overhead water tank. A centralized master controller monitors these levels and switches on and switches off a sump motor. So that the water level in overhead tank is maintained above a threshold value.

[0016] Smart Home Solution (SHS) monitors the temperature variation within the home and within each room. Accordingly, it switches on or off the HVAC system so that the temperature inside a home is always within prescribed threshold values. For example, in summer it switches on AC, to keep cool inside a room. But in winter, it switches on warmer to keep the room warm.

[0017] Gas leakage sensors are used to find gas leakage in the kitchen. SHS always monitors this value, if it is above the prescribed threshold value, then it alerts the members in the home, by sending SMS, tweets, WhatsApp messages. It raises a siren sound to indicate an emergency situation.

[0018] A fire detector sensor is used to detect the fire. If the sensor value is above a prescribed threshold value, then the SHS sends messages to the members of the home. Also, it sends automated message to fire station.

[0019] Surveillance cameras are used to monitor the doors and gates of the home. If any strangers are identified, SHS sends the images of strangers to home owners and alerts. If members of the home found in the gate, SHS opens the gate, door, parking lot automatically.

[0020] A dashboard displays the status of different sensors such as cameras, gas detector, fire detector, light on/off status, fan on/off status, locker status, door status, water level status, energy consumption status. There are two kinds of dashboards. One is Android app based and another is web app based. So, user can check the status of all sensors from anywhere in the world.

[0021] A cleaning robot cleans the rooms periodically. It is roaming around the rooms and removes fine dusts and keeps the room clean. An AI based DL model is built to manipulate sensor values. An AI based Reinforcement Learning (RL) model helps to determine the targets and path planning. A Real-Time Location System (RTLS) helps the robot to find its current location within the home. A trilateration algorithm is used by the RTLS.

[0022] A drone is used to sanitize around the home. It flies around the home, sprays disinfectants and sanitizes periodically. This helps to avoid covid virus spreading across different homes. The drone uses RF receiver and transmitter to get ground control signals. A dashboard is having control widgets to control the drone. The drone uses an AI based DL model to manipulate sensor values to determine altitude, yaw, pitch etc. GPS sensor is used for planning the trajectory path.
[0023] User is allowed to switch on/off lights periodically. Also, motion detection sensors are used to switch on lights in staircase and balcony etc. This also helps to save energy by switching on/off lights, fans appropriately.

[0024] The lights are dimmed when user is watching television, but made brighter when user is reading some books. An AI based DL model is built to understand the user action.

[0025] The lights are changing colors based on user’s mood. Similarly, songs are played based on user’s mood.

[0026] The curtains are controlled through stepper motors. The curtains are moved up and down based on prescribed time settings. The curtains are raised during day time, but lowered during night time.

[0027] The main door is controlled by recognizing faces of members of the home. Also, a digital locker with bio sensor gives additional security.

[0028] When there is a power cut, fans are running on battery with humming sound. SHS adjusts the frequency of the power supply and reduces the humming sound.

[0029] The camera sensor identifies dangerous animals such as snakes, scorpions and SHS alerts through SMS, Tweets, WhatsApp messages. Also, it alerts by raising siren sound.

[0030] SHS provides intelligent child locks so that children cannot access gas stove, TV and other appliances based on user settings. This provides extra protection to the children.

[0031] SHS provides roles and rights to the members of the home. This helps to get better control over access permission to the other members. It gives better privacy to all members. The admin has full rights to do a master reset of all settings and configure again.

[0032] SHS intelligently identifies unauthorized entries into the home and sends the alert to both house members and nearby police station by using pre-configured settings.

[0033] The IMU sensor which is used to get the feedback like to measure velocity, gravitational forces, acceleration, there are few IMU sensors which have combined GPS providing positional feedback.

[0034] SHS detects bad odors inside the home and removes by spraying fragrances through the cleaning robot.

[0035] SHS measures body temperature of the members inside the home. If the temperature is above a prescribed threshold value, it sends alert messages. This helps to detect covid in early stages.

[0036] The Raspberry Pi microcontroller can be effectively used for the image processing and therefore a camera with RPI is used to detect objects.

[0037] SHS uses augmented reality based face mask to hide the user face in order to close the locker. This feature is added in Android application for controlling the locker.

[0038] SHS uses virtual reality and provides virtual switches to the user to control the lights and fans in different floors. An Android app includes this feature and controls the lights and fans.

[0039] SHS uses cloud based Blockchain nodes and MQTT server to transfer the commands from user mobile/PC to ESP8266 and RPI. This gives better cyber security and protects from hackers. Four or more Blockchain miners are used to get faster approval of transactions.
