BASE STAND WITH STORAGE COMPARTMENTS
VIDEOCON INDUSTRIES LIMITED
an Indian Company
of 14 KM Stone, Aurangabad Paithan Road,
Village Chitegaon, Taluka Paithan,
District Aurangabad, Maharashtra, India,
THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION PARTICULARLY DESCRIBES THE INVENTION AND THE MANNER IN WHICH IT IS TO BE PERFORMED.

FIELD
The present invention relates to mechanical engineering. In particular, it relates to a base stand with storage compartments.
BACKGROUND
A conventional refrigerator accessory known as base stand provides for a single drawer storage space, generally below the refrigerator, which is typically used to store articles that do not need refrigeration. This single drawer construction may have compartments for storing different food items. The drawer can be made to slide in and out of the base stand, as and when required.
Due to its single drawer construction, the drawer is quite large and bulky and hence is difficult to handle while opening and closing. At times, it may get stuck inside the refrigerator if pushed or pulled at an angle. Also, because all the articles are stored within a single drawer, its handling and manoeuvring is difficult, requiring significant effort and manual force for its opening and closing.
Granted Indian patent no. IN256768 talks about a bottom drawer for refrigerators. The bottom drawer as disclosed has a single drawer construction, wherein the drawer is supported on side rails to provide for the sliding movement. The constructions of the bottom drawer is quite complex and ergonomically inefficient.

The storage device for storing articles therewithin as disclosed herein is comparatively easy and convenient to handle while opening and closing. The storage device for storing articles therewithin that requires comparatively less energy for opening and closing. Further, the storage device for storing articles that is reliable.
With regard to Figures 1 to 7, the storage device 100 includes a base stand 10, at least two drawers 20a and 20b and an operative front panel 30. The base stand 10 is partitioned into two compartments or sections 10a and 10b (shown in Fig. 6) through a partition wall 12. The sections 10a and 10b are adapted to receive and accommodate there within the at least two drawers 20a and 20b, respectively.
The base stand 10 has operative front, rear, side and bottom portions. The
operative front panel 30 is fitted at the operative front portion of the base stand
10, lengthwise. In an embodiment, the base stand has a substantially
rectangular shape having a leg at each corner. However, it may have other shapes and/or configuration as will be easily appreciated by a person skilled in the art.
The operative front panel 30 is shaped such that it enables flush fitting of the drawers 20a and 20b with the base stand 10. The drawers 20a and 20b have operative curved fronts 17a and 17b, which flushes with a curved front of the operative front panel 30. The drawers 20a and 20b are used for storing articles and are slidably movable inside the respective sections 10a and 10b of the base stand 10. In accordance with one embodiment of the present disclosure, the

drawers 20a and 20b have a single storage space for storing articles. In another embodiment, the drawers 20a and 20b may have two or more compartments for storing different articles. Each of the drawers 20a and 20b have a netted structure 15, which facilitates passage of air through the drawers 20a and 20b. In an embodiment, the drawer 20a is designed to accommodate articles of smaller size as compared to the size of articles accommodated in the drawer 20b.
Further, the operative rear portion of the base stand 10 has an arrangement in the form of a railing 13 for assisting placement and/or providing a leveled surface for a structure such as a refrigerator to be placed on the base stand 10. A rear end of a periphery 22 of the drawers 20a and 20b abuts with the railing 13 in a closed configuration of the drawers 20a and 20b.
Further, adjustable nut and bolt assemblies are provided through the legs 14, in particular, the ones provided near the operative front portion of the base stand 10. In an embodiment, the base stand 10 has through spaces 18a, 18b in the legs 14 to accommodate the nut and bolt assemblies. The nut and bolt assembly includes an insert molded nut bolted into an adjuster bolt 16, which facilitates leveling of the base stand 10 with respect to a surface below.
Figure 3 and Figure 4 illustrate the drawers 20a and 20b in isolation. As shown, the drawer 20a is configured with two compartments while the drawer 20b is configured as a single compartment drawer. In one embodiment, a compartment 20ai of the drawer 20a is at a base level different than that of the other compartment 20aii. The difference in base levels enables adequate ventilation through the netted structures 15a and 15b of the drawers 20a and 20b.
The drawers 20a and 20b have a netted structure to provide for air passage all along its base and through their peripheral wall sections. Further, a reinforcement step 24 is provided along a mid-section of the peripheral wall sections to provide stability and reinforcement to the drawers 20a and 20b. In an

embodiment, the drawer 20a is designed to accommodate articles of smaller size as compared to the size of articles accommodated in the drawer 20b. The drawers 20a and 20b have operative curved fronts 17a and 17b throughout their widths to enable the drawers 20a and 20b to flush fit with the front panel 30 of the base stand 10.
Figure 5A and Figure 5B illustrate different views of the operative front panel 30. The operative front panel 30, hereinafter interchangeably referred to as the panel 30, is detachably connected at the operative front portion of the base stand 10 to allow easy replacement thereof. The panel 30 enables guiding of the drawers 20a and 20b into the base stand 10. In one embodiment, the panel 30 provides for a snap type fitment with the base stand 10 through locks 34 provided at the rear of the panel 30. The panel 30 is easily replaceable with front panels of similar shapes.
Figures 6 and 7 illustrate different views of the base stand 10. The base stand 10 is shown being partitioned into sections 10a and 10b through a slotted wall 12. Further, spaces 18a and 18b are provided in the base stand 10 to accommodate the nut and bolt assemblies with much ease.
The storage device 100 not only provides a base for an overhead article, such as a refrigerator, but is also adapted to be used as a storage device for storing articles that do not require refrigeration. Further, the different compartments provided within the drawers, such as in the drawer 20a, enable storing of two different types of small articles in a single compartment. In an embodiment, the structural profile of the operative front panel 30 is similar to an structural profile of a door(s) of the refrigerator that is placed atop the base stand 10, thereby making the storage device 100 aesthetically appealing. Moreover, the netted drawers 20a and 20b are provided with grooves 19a and 19b on their respective front faces, which are ergonomically designed for proper grip. Further, replaceability of the operative front panel 30 makes the base stand 10 compatible with any refrigerator. The drawers 20a and 20b are easy to slide

within the base stand 10 without requiring any roller mechanism, and easily lockable with the base stand 10.
