Abstract: ABSTRACT SUBSTRATES FOR BURNABLE COMPOSITIONS The present disclosure relates to the use of wood and non-wood based pre-treated substrates for use in receiving burnable compositions. The substrates with the desired burnable composition result in one or more products with the superior characteristics of burning time, among others, and reduction of wood waste. The present disclosure provides a product comprising a pre-treated substrate, wherein the substrate is characterised by an average pore size in the range of 1 to 50 microns; a density in the range of 0.3 to 1.5 g/cc; a moisture content of less than 20%; and a lignin content of less than 20%, such that a burning time of the product is in the range of 40-60 minutes, and such that adsorption of the burnable composition on the pre-treated substrate is about 10-30%. Further, a process for obtaining a product comprising the pre-treated substrate is also disclosed herein.
I/We Claim:
1. A product comprising:
a pre-treated substrate for receiving a burnable composition, the pre-treated substrate comprising:
(a) an average pore size in the range of 1 to 50 microns;
(b) a density in the range of 0.3 to 1.5 g/cc;
(c) a moisture content of less than 20%; and
(d) a lignin content of less than 20%,
such that a burning time of the product is in the range of 40-60 minutes, and such that adsorption of the burnable composition on the pre-treated substrate is about 10-30%.
2. The product as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pre-treated substrate is obtained from the wood of plant species selected from the group consisting of Eucalyptus sp., Acacia sp., Casuarina sp., Vachellia sp., Populus sp., and Betula sp.
3. The product as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pre-treated substrate is made of one or more of wood-based products comprising extruded sawdust, moulded cellulosics, wood-polymer composites, and combinations thereof.
4. The product as claimed in claim 1, wherein the pre-treated substrate is made of non-wood based products comprising extruded charcoal.
5. The product as claimed in any one of claim 3 and 4, wherein the pre-treated substrate is extruded in the form of a stick.
6. The product as claimed in claim 1, wherein said product is one or more of aroma sticks, incense sticks, agarbattis, dhoop sticks, battis, match sticks, and mosquito repellent products.
7. The product as claimed in claim 6, wherein the product comprises one or more of aroma sticks, incense sticks, agarbattis, dhoop sticks, and mosquito repellent products, and wherein the burnable composition comprises one or more of 55 – 60% charcoal, 25 – 30% sawdust, 15 – 20% binders, and less than 1% of fragrance.
8. The product as claimed in claim 7, wherein the binders are selected from the group consisting of jigat, guar gum, starch, and carboxy methyl cellulose.
9. The product as claimed in claim 7, wherein the saw dust and the charcoal are obtained from the wood of plant species selected from the group consisting of Eucalyptus sp., Acacia sp., Casuarina sp, Vachellia sp., Populus sp., and Betula sp..
10. The product as claimed in claim 6, wherein the product comprises battis, and match sticks, and wherein the burnable composition comprises one or more of oxidizing agent, sulfur, fillers, binders and glass powder.
11. A process for making a product, said process comprising:
(a) obtaining a substrate made of one of a wood-based product and a non-wood based product by an extrusion process;
(b) processing the substrate to obtain a pre-treated substrate having a moisture content of less than 20%; and
(c) applying a burnable composition to the pre-treated substrate,
wherein the product comprises a pre-treated substrate, and a burnable composition.
12. The process as claimed in claim 11, further comprising, obtaining by an extrusion process, the pre-treated substrate made of the non-wood based product.
13. The process as claimed in claim 11, further comprising delignifying, wherein the pre-treated substrate obtained from step (b) is further delignified to obtain a lignin content of less than 20%.
14. The process as claimed in claim 11, wherein the pre-treated substrate is obtained from the wood of plant species selected from the group consisting of Eucalyptus sp., Acacia sp., Casuarina sp, Vachellia sp., Populus sp., and Betula sp.
15. The process as claimed in any one of claim 11 and 13, wherein the pre-treated substrate is made of wood-based products comprising extruded sawdust, moulded cellulosics, wood-polymer composites, and combinations thereof.
16. The process as claimed in claim 11, wherein the pre-treated substrate is made of non-wood based products comprising extruded charcoal.
17. The process as claimed in claim 11, wherein the burnable composition comprises one or more of 55 – 60% charcoal, 25 – 30% sawdust, 15 – 20% binders, and less than 1% of fragrance.
18. The process as claimed in claim 17, wherein the burnable composition comprises one or more of an oxidizing agent, sulfur, fillers, binders and glass powder.
19. The process as claimed in claim 11, wherein the product is at least one of aroma sticks, incense sticks, agarbattis, dhoop sticks, battis, match sticks, and mosquito repellent products.
