Switch Operated Fail Safe Mechanism For Locking And Unlocking Steering Column
Abstract: ABSTRACT SWITCH OPERATED FAIL-SAFE MECHANISM FOR LOCKING AND UNLOCKING STEERING COLUMN A locking device comprises a switch, a gear box, and a spring member. The switch controls a motor that is driven by a battery unit of the vehicle. The gear box unit is in mechanical engagement with the motor, and the motor is configured to drive one or more gears present in the gearbox unit. One end of the spring member is connected to a casing of the gearbox unit and an opposite end is connected to a last gear of the gearbox unit, and the spring member sustains the steering column in a locked state. When the switch is operated to run the motor to drive the gearbox unit, the spring member is extended due to torque from the gearbox to unlock the steering column from the locked state.
