2
FIELD OF INVENTION
The present invention generally relates to powered material conveying pipe lines
susceptible to linear and lateral displacements during operational stage. The
invention particularly relates to fuel pipe lines from mills to windbox carrying
pulverised coal suspended in hot primary air in a utility boiler. More particularly,
the invention relates to a toggle connector device for providing reliable
connection between the fuel pipe lines.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In a coal fired utility boiler, pulverised coal is transported from the pulveriser to
windbox pneumatically. The fuel pipes run horizontally from the mill bay to the
furnace corners and raised at the corners and get connected to the windbox.
During operation, the windbox, which is mounted on the furnace water wall
undergoes displacement in all the three viz., x, y, z-directions due to the furnace
expansion. This displacement requires to be catered for while designing the fuel
pipes connectable to the windbox. According to the prior art, this movement of
the windbox due to furnace expansion is compensated by providing standard
sleeve couplings. This arrangement additionally involves drilling of holes in the
fuel pipes. The manufacturing of such arrangement is time consuming. Further,
the erection time involved is substantially higher for this type of arrangement, as
all the parts are required to be assembled at site during the erection.

3
OBJECTION OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore an object of the invention to propose a toggle connector device
which eliminates the disadvantages of prior art.
Another object of the invention is to propose a toggle connector device, which
provides more flexibility of operation due to the improved loading pattern.
A further objection of the invention is to propose a toggle connector device
which provides a leak proof connection in the pulverized fuel pipe line during the
conveying of the pulverized fuel by hot primary air from mill to windox.
A still further object of the invention is to propose a toggle connector device
which provides a safe and reliable connection between the fuel pipes.
Yet another object of the invention is to propose a toggle connector device which
is economically viable.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly there is provided a toggle connector device comprising at least two
horizontal members constituting toggle connector ends, a pipe container, a fluid
arrestor, a pipe container closure ring, a TC positioner, a TC retainer, an external
tie and closure connectors. The pipe container having curved ends and the fluid
arrestors are profiled to fit into the curve. The two toggle connector ends are
each provided with two TC positioners 180 deg. Apart. The external ties are used

4
to connect the TC positioner on the toggle connector end and the TC retainer on
the pipe container. The closure connector are tightly held in a position between
the pipe connector closure rings mounted on the two toggle connector ends and
a seal tight or leak proof connection is achieved between the two ends of the
toggle connector.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING
Figure 1 - shows an exemplary device involving fuel pipe members, a pipe
container, a pipe container closure ring, external ties and fluid arrestor according
to the present invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE
INVENTION
As shown in figure-1, one each closure ring (01) is provided at either end of a
pipe container (02) which houses a fluid arrestor (03) which is profiled to suit the
end curvature of the closure ring (01). At least two closure connectors (04) are
disposed and tightened between the two closure rings (01). Two end members
(05) of the toggle connections are connected by means of an external tie (06)
and a TC positioner (07). A TC retainer (08), connects the end members (05) on
the pipe container (02). The end members (05) are connected to each other
indirectly through the pipe container (02). The separating forces between the
end members (05) due to the pressure of the fuel and air mixture are axially
transmitted to the external ties (06). The compressive force between the pipe
container closure rings (01) ensures the leak proof connection between the end
members (05).

5
SALIENT FEATURES
• Safe and seal tight joint between pipes
• Interchangeability
• No loose parts
• Ease of manufacturing
• Reduced erection time
• Effective absorption of linear and angular displacements of fuel pipes

6
