THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION DESCRIBES THE INVENTION


Field of Invention:
This invention relates to the field of vehicular fuel systems.
In particularly the invention relates to priming devices.
Background of the Invention:
Priming a fuel system is the action of forcing fuel through the system's lines to assure uniform pressure as well as to purge any air pockets that may exist in the system. Air in the system can cause failure of the injection mechanism or improper operation of the system.
The systems that are used currently comprise a hand primer; a mechanical fuel water separator and a fuel filter installed separately and operate along with some other components. The fuel filter has a lower efficiency at 3-5 micron size, due to which there were lot of warranty claims from the end users. To avoid this customer wanted to go for a 3-5 micron efficiency fuel filter. This is filter has a higher restriction for fluid flow.
Fuel water separation is also achieved in the same media and to a higher degree as compared with a mechanical water separator. Since fuel filter and fuel water separator are combined into one single unit and installed on pressure side of lift pump, the requirement was to develop a hand operated priming pump located on pressure side of lift pump.

The efficiency of the current priming pump is very less and requires separate devices for priming, fuel water separator and a fuel filter, thus making it more bulky and thereby increasing the chances of leakages.
Objects of the invention:
It is an object of the invention to provide an improved priming pump.
Another object of this invention is to provide a priming pump having high efficiency.
Yet another object of this invention is to provide a device wherein one person can manage the priming and bleeding together.
Further object of the invention is to provide robust device for priming.
Still one more object of the invention is to provide a device which is economical.

Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings illustrates a fuel system on a vehicle in accordance with prior art; and
Figure 2 of the accompanying drawings illustrates a fuel system on a vehicle in accordance with this invention.

Detailed Description of Accompanying Drawings:
Fig 1 illustrates a fuel system currently used in vehicles, said system comprises a hand primer and mechanical fuel water separator located on suction side of lift pump and fuel filter located on pressure side of lift pump. The air entrapped in fuel lines is bled at two points, first at priming pump bleeding outlet and second at fuel injection pump bleeding outlet.
At bleeding point 1, priming pump removes air in the pipeline from fuel tank to fuel strainer and from fuel strainer to fuel water separator. The air entrapped in the piping from fuel water separator to lift pump to fuel filter to fuel injection pump is required to be bled from bleeding outlet provided at fuel injection pump.
Constant supply of fuel is necessary during engine starting from the first crank operation. The fuel also acts as a lubricant thereby preventing wear and tear of the system.
In accordance with this invention, a hand-priming pump, a fuel filter and a fuel water separator are provided as a single assembly.
Fig 2 illustrates a fuel system in accordance with this invention which includes a single device for priming, fuel water separation and for fuel filtering. In accordance with this invention a hand-priming pump, a fuel filter and a fuel water separator are located on pressure side of lift pump and work as a single unit. The air entrapped in fuel lines is bled at two points, first at priming pump bleeding outlet and second at fuel injection pump

bleeding outlet. However at first bleeding point, priming pump removes air in the fuel lines from fuel tank to fuel strainer to lift pump to fuel filter cum fuel water separator. Majority of the air entrapped is removed at the bleeding outlet provided on priming pump. This leaves little volume of air required to be bled from the fuel injection pump and reduces operator fatigue.
Advantages:
The system also offers following advantages:
1. 30% improvement in delivery of fluid.
2. Less no of strokes required to prime the fuel system.
3. Priming and bleeding can be done by single person
4. Number of joints in system are reduced thereby reducing chances of leakages.
While considerable emphasis has been placed herein on the particular features of the preferred embodiment and the improvisation with regards to it, it will be appreciated the various modifications can be made in the preferred embodiments without departing from the principles of the invention. These and the other modifications in the nature of the invention will be apparent to those skilled in art from disclosure herein, whereby it is to be distinctly understood that the foregoing descriptive matter is to interpreted merely as illustrative of the invention and not as a limitation.
