Renewal Process for FSSAI Food License

The food license is issued by FSSAI is valid for a maximum time period of five years. Thus it is mandatory to renew the FSSAI license before the expiry of the license.

For carrying the food business, FSSAI license shall be mandatorily obtained, and it is equally important to renew the FSSAI license after the expiry of time limit to carry on their business without any legal obstacle, complying with the rules and regulations of FSSAI.  

Time Limit for Renewal of License

The initial validity of FSSAI license as chosen by the Food Business Operator’s lies between one year to five years according to which fees are decided. According to the rules and regulations of the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India. Every food business operator needs to file for the renewal process before 30 days of the expiry of current food license.

Procedure for FSSAI License Renewal:

For getting the FSSAI license renewed, the following steps must be followed:

  • For the renewal of a central license, the application Form A shall be filed along with: 

  1. The  ID Proof(Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Pan Card, Driving License, Passport)

  2. Signatures of the authorised signatory, submitted along with requisite fees.
  • For the renewal of state license, the application Form B shall be filed along with :
  1. the ID Proof (Aadhar Card, Voter ID, Pan Card, Driving License, Passport)
  2. signatures of the authorised signatory must be presented along with requisite fees.
  • The audit report or certificate regarding Food Safety Management System or Food Safety Management Scheme plan must be attached along with the application.
  • Form of nomination in Form No. IX of the nomination of persons by the company shall be filed in the prescribed format.
  • Certificate from Ministry of Tourism, if applicable
  • A declaration must be duly signed and submitted by the authorised signatory mentioning that the food business is being carried out according to the food safety and standards prescribed under the Food Safety and Standard Act.
  • After receiving the required documents and application, the authorities will work further to examine it and arrange an inspection to check the quality of food products.
  • After successful inspection of your business proceedings, if they are satisfied, then they issue a license in your favour.

Consequences for non - renewal of FSSAI License within the time limit

According to Fssai Safety and Standards Act, 2006, following are the consequences for non – renewal of FSSAI License within the prescribed time limit.

Late Fee:

The application for FSSAI License renewal shall be made within the stipulated time period failing of which would attract the fine of Rs. 100 per day for the delay continues.

Cancellation:

Where the application for renewal of food License is not made within the stipulated time period, then the license will be considered expired.

Note: For continuing food business operations they require to file fresh license.
