International Copyright Registration

Works of Indian Origin automatically get copyright protection in the countries which are members of the following conventions.

  • Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works
  • WIPO Copyright Treaty
  • Universal Copyright Convention
  • Convention for the Protection of Producers of Phonograms against Unauthorized Duplication of their Phonograms
  • Multilateral Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation of Copyright Royalties
  • Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS Agreement).

To seek protection in non-member countries, Indian works must meet the legal requirements of the relevant national laws to maintain its copyright in that country.

Note: Foreign Works originating from al the member countries of the Convention can seek copyright protection in India.
