International Copyright Registration

Copyright Law is territorial and the registration differs according to different countries. However; India being a part of several International Treaties, it is easier to extent the protection of your work outside India as well.

Works of Indian Origin automatically get copyright protection in the countries which are members of the following conventions.

  • Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works
  • WIPO Copyright Treaty
  • Universal Copyright Convention
  • Convention for the Protection of Producers of Phonograms against Unauthorized Duplication of their Phonograms
  • Multilateral Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation of Copyright Royalties
  • Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS Agreement).

To seek protection in non-member countries, Indian works must meet the legal requirements of the relevant national laws to maintain its copyright in that country.

Note: Foreign Works originating from al the member countries of the Convention can seek copyright protection in India.
