Classification principle: If the apparatus controls environmental conditions such as light, temperature, moisture, or water supply, it generally falls within Class 11.
As per the Nice Classification updates 2026, the following clarifications are particularly relevant to Class 11:
Smart lighting systems, energy-efficient heat pumps, and integrated home climate-control systems are now more clearly classified in Class 11. Earlier, smart bulbs and connected thermostats were sometimes filed in Class 9.
Practical takeaway: Products that physically produce light, heat, cooling, or water flow belong in Class 11, while their control software may need separate Class 9 consideration.
